How to Find the IP Address of Your Mac

This is going sound easy, but can someone please tell me the simplest way to get my Mac's current IP address?

Does it matter if I'm going through an Airport (or other router)?

My current strategy is to go to a website I know that reports your IP, but this seems inefficient at best.

If you use a router, then the router Internet modem gives the router an external ip address - this is the one everyone on the internet sees connecting to them - in effect the router is connecting.

The router gives the mac an internal ip address and routes traffic to and from that ip address - so if you want to know which ip address the router has a web site is a simple way. If you want to know which ip address the MacBook Pro has, you can see that in network utility - in the utilities folder - or if you install istat menus - then in the toolbar.

Also if you use an Airport - then the Airport utility will tell you the external and internal ip addresses.

Best of luck.

PS - There might be a widget that keeps track of your external ip address.

hey i just got an xbox 360 and i got the wireless internet adapter than microsoft makes to pick up my wireless internet. I have an ADSL ethernet modem that is plugged into my Airport, which is streaming in my house. So on my xbox i got the test for the wireless connection to work. then the test for the IP address failed. I have looked online to find the IP address, but i dont know which one i need (of the computer? the airport? the modem box?) and the subnet mask, and gateway, and the DNS numbers. can anyone help please? i have mac os X if that helps
