iSync conduit for Treo 650 no longer working after installing Leopard

After installing Leopard on my macbook I can no longer sync the calendar and address book with my Treo 650. I suspect this is a problem with the iSync conduit (which is responsible for calendar and address book) because all other HotSync conduits are still working. I don't get any error message; it just doesn't update the calendar on my Treo anymore.

Macbook, Mac OS X (10.5)

Michael, may I interject a comment here?

I just completed installing Palm Desktop on a new iMac running Tiger. When I went to iSync to set up Palm syncing I noticed that although the script created an "iSync disabled conduits" folder it did NOT move the necessary Palm conduits to this folder (Address Book, Contacts etc). Once I manually moved these conduits over everything has been working fine.

Regards,
Steve

That's strange, though not unheard of. It likely occurred as a result of an incorrect permissions profile. You may have been able to read from and write to the iSync Disabled Conduits folder, but not read from the active Conduits folder. Or, vice versa.

When you first attempted to launch iSync after enabling Palm device support but before moving the conduits by hand, the Palm—not Apple—Conflict Manager (same name, different process) should have kicked up log entries indicating that you had specific conduit conflict issues.

Okay, I just had my first successful Palm sync under Leopard. And it's repeatable.

Here's my particular set of voodoo. I don't know how much of this is necessary and how much is coincidence. After a week of struggling with this, I'm not inclined to experiment further.

I moved the Apple iSync conduit to my user folder: <~/Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits>. Then I ran Apple iSync and installed Palm support again, which put a second copy into the base directory </Library/Application Support/Palm HotSync/Conduits>. I made sure all the Palm-issued conduits (Datebook, etc.) were moved to 'Disabled Conduits'.

Then I ran HotSync Manager and enabled the iSync conduit.

Then I went back to iSync, clicked on the Palm icon, and unchecked "Contacts" while checking "Sync all Calendars". For the first sync, I selected "replace events on device" (don't remember the exact wording, and now that menu is gone, but you get the idea).

Then (this is the voodoo part) I clicked the big silver "Sync Devices" button in iSync. While it was displaying the dialog box about HotSync, I clicked the physical sync button on my Palm USB cable.

And then everything worked.

I've added events on both the Palm and on iCal successfully, and watched them sync in both directions.

I'm still not syncing Contacts, but that's lower-priority for me... I have 3000 contacts already in my Palm, and that list doesn't change nearly as often as my calendar (which changes constantly). But if I can keep iCal synced, I can wait for a new Apple conduit, or for MarkSpace to update Missing Sync for Leopard, or whatever.

Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for the numerous posts.
I had the same problem "iSync Conduit: received NULL message"
It has been resolved for me.
Here's the JuJu:
Goto the library(main), application support, palm hotsync, remove the "Apple " conduit.
Launch Isync, enable, select slow sync in pref's.
Press sync on device or dock.
My contacts and Ical both synced. The icon in Isync gave me an error, but the log in Hot sync didn't.
I rechecked the app support folder, there was an updated(still old) "Apple"(3.1.0) installed.
Tested with contact changes and event changes, all is well.
Upon relaunching Isync, the Icon was corrected(no warning) and the slow sync option gone.
Finally, rechecked the log from hot sync, and it showed the proper Isync connection.

I tried this but it did not work for me. I can still only sync my calendar if I only select the calendar option in iSync. And is does NOT sync categories or the location of the event. all the events on the Treo are Unfiled. If I check the contact sync it wipes them from the Treo but leaves the apple address book untouched.

It this apple's problem or Palms? and when do you think it will be resolved?

Anyone?

Are they Apple's problems, or Palm's?

It depends upon which issue you are talking about. If you are referring to the lack of category and location support, those are long standing issues with the iSync Palm Conduit, and I think it is reasonable to say that the will never be 'fixed' by Apple. Support for the features of 'advanced' post-Palm OS 5.4 devices is available from Mark/Space in their Missing Sync for Palm OS package.

Events created on your Palm device will always end up in a single designated calendar, in iCal: by default, that is the Unfiled calendar. There is nothing you can do about that behavior except, again, switch to the Missing Sync for Palm OS. That's just the way the iSync Palm Conduit works. So, there in not going to be a 'fix' offered for that issue either.

The first issue you mentioned appears to be a bug in iSync 3, and will be addressed. When? There is no information regarding a due date for resolution of this issue.

Actually, I used a similar workaround by syncing my Palm device (via USB) to the Palm Desktop (not using iSync but with the regular Palm Desktop conduits).

I exported all contacts from Apple Address Book in VCard format. Then imported that into Palm Desktop. Then did a Hotsync. As already mentioned, this is one way: computer to Palm.

At least this will keep me going until either 10.5.2 fixes this, or if not then I'll try Missing Sync.
