USB-MIDI driver for Casio Keyboards

Ok, I know that this question has been asked before on numerous occasions, but still there is not a single solution in sight.

About Christmas time last year I purchased a Casio Privia digital piano. I wanted to use this as a midi controller on my MBP. It wasnt until a few months later when i returned from college and finally had a chance to sit down with this instrument that i realized that the USB-midi connection was not compatible with mac. This wouldnt be such a problem if the darn keyboard had actual midi connections, but it doesnt, only the usb-midi.

Ok, so after looking for almost a year for some type of solution to this problem (other than dual booting windows, and switching back between the two), seeing as that i can no longer return the keyboard, I am left to propose some of my own ideas which i would like some input on:

1. Use a usb-midi driver from another company such as Yamaha, Korg etc. I have tried one yamaha driver that did not work and i would like to know if anyone has had any better luck.

2. Use some sort of translation program to take any input coming from the keyboard and map it to a certain midi value. This worked for my 5 button logitech mouse that had no driver support for mac. I used a program called USB overdrive to convert the signals from the mouse to manually mapped hot keys. This is essentially the same idea, or so i believe.

3. Build a driver. Does anyone even know if this is feasible, or how much work it would take? maybe Casio never released any drivers for mac because this is just a case where the 2 devices are absolutely incompatible, or maybe (hopefully) because they are just lazy; which brings me to my final most desperate plan of action.

4. Petition Casio to build us the drivers we deserve. If you are reading this post, chances are also dealing with this same, frustrating problem. Let your voice be heard in the replies, and maybe if enough people speak out we can link this thread to Casio and perhaps something will happen. Im tired of being treated like a second rate computer user because i went with a mac. Equal Rights, Dammit!

Thanks to those who reply/

I noticed your post to the effect that a recompiled version is/will be available. When I clicked on the link to download the revised version, an alert popped up that said "This file has been deprecated. Another file would probably be better. Do you want to continue?"

What does this mean?

Also, I downloaded the file anyway. Its "get info" information looks identical to the earlier 10.5-only version. I replaced the file in the Midi Drivers folder but there was no change, still can't see the WK-110 (though I note from your web page that others, using 10.5, apparently can).

I forgot to update the link on the main page and you downloaded the old version, hence the "deprecated" warning - sorry about that. The link has been changed. The correct archive on the download page should end with "10.4" and "Get Info" should say that the dmg file has been changed today (Jan 1st) at 11:01 AM.

In fact, here's the correct link:

update:

i did test your new version without some success,
no success was also after i did update the system to 10.4.11
i did a chmod -R 777 over the driver, no success too.
i do use the casio LK90TV with the vendor id: 0x6802, 0x07cf, driver has the date you mention, but now I see, it is a Intel-only Version,...
can that be the reason or the fact, that the G4 has only USB1?

did someone have tested this new driver with success under PPC 10.4.x?

The original driver does appear to be Intel-only. I have to admit that I'm pretty new to Mac development, and I only have access to a Macbook Pro running 10.5.

I recompiled it as an actual universal binary, targeting both i386 and ppc970, but couldn't test if it really works on something else than an Intel processor. Here's the link:

If it works I'll replace the default download with this one.

Just downloaded and installed on two computers. Casio CTK-720 isn't recognized on my old eMac (PPC G4, 10.4.11). Works perfectly on my Intel MacBook.

I noticed that the "Uploaded" date shows Jan 02 2008, but the Project Home page shows a 2008/01/05 comment about the default download link. Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you so much for your efforts on this -- you've clearly helped a lot of people with this. 🙂
