Russian fonts

Is there a way for international fonts like Russian to appear correctly? Right now, they are appearing as question marks

Where exactly? Safari? Mail?

Have you tried switching encodings to UTF-8, KOI8-R, ISO-8859-5, or Cyrillic Windows using View > Text Encoding or Message > Text Encoding?

If Safari, provide the url of the page not working for you.

Do you have русскии on your list in system prefs/international/input menu? If not, use the Edit button to add it.

I have somewhat similar problem here with Firefox, all single line input fields on web pages (also address bar) and tab titles show question marks instead of russian letters. Everything worked fine with Tiger, but problems began after switching to Leopard (I guess some of the system fonts changed and does not have russian letters in it).
Is there any easy way to correct this?
(btw, Safari works just fine in this regard)

Do you set your international menu to Russian before typing? This drives my Ukrainian wife nuts. Also the fact that the keyboard layout does not match the Russian keyboard...

In system prefs/international/input menu I think you choose 3 different layouts -- Russian, Phonetic, and PC. Do none of these provide what you want?

I will have to ask my wife to check it out. But the iBook is on 10.4xx and she will not let me upgrade it to 10.5... But thanks, if it works I will not have to hear foreign swearing when she does her e-mail. Or better yet. Honey, if I install this... It will work.

IS there a localization now in Ukrainian for the mac? All I saw was Russian localization, but no Ukrainian.

I set my input method to Russian, if that's what you mean. I do not use Ukrainian layouts.
My Russian layout pretty much reflects where russian symbols are (they don't sell macbooks with russian letters imprinted on keyboard in US, so I just memorized their location some years ago)

I will have to ask my wife to check it out. But the iBook is on 10.4xx

10.4 only has Russian and Russian Phonetic. Russian PC can be gotten from my iDisk.

No, not from Apple. The Ukrainian site that used to have one for Tiger is dead

Well, that sure might be the case, but it worked ok in Tiger! So I guess it is just some font that is now changed. Is there any way to know what font is used for particular area of a window or in some particular input field?

It's not unusual for some third party app like this to have a problem when a new OS X comes out, and in my experience Firefox often has font glitches (e.g. it can't display Indic scripts correctly). I played with all the preferences and various fonts without any luck. But perhaps someone else will find a workaround....

Assuming you are talking about inputting Cyrillic in Firefox, is there some reason you have to use FireFox? Use Safari or Opera instead.
