Hi all. I'm looking for opinions on the best gigabit ethernet switch. I need to connect a g5 and g4 at gigabit speeds. The switch will then connect to a router at base 100 for internet access for both computers. The switch only needs to have a 4-5 ports but it has to be able to negotiate base 100 on one of it's ports while maintaining gigabit on the others. Anyone have any good suggestions?

Try the Linksys SD2005 (5 ports) or the SD2008 (8 ports).
Thanks. I've actually been looking at that model and it seems to be what I need. Anyone have any reasons not to get the Linksys?
No the linksys will be fine.
You may also want to check what is available at New Egg. They should have a wide selection, inlcuding the Linksys, as well as good prices.

Thanks, I actually found New Egg had it for a very good price a few days ago and ordered it then. Now on to wiring the house for CAT 6...
You can use CAT5E for gigabit Ethernet. CAT5E cable and connectors are a lot less expensive then CAT6 equipment.
For the frugal minded, I suggest using CAT5E.
For those looking to long term, Cat6 may be the better investment.
