Lexmark p4350

I can't get this printer to print since installing Leopard.

According to this page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306684 the printer driver is included in Leopard and if I go into Print and Fax in System Preferences it is there.

Every time I try to ask it to print from different applications this message comes up "/usr/libexec/cups/backend/usb failed"

What now?

Same issue...contacted Lexmark. They told me in an email response that the X5470 driver would not be updated for Leopard. That shouldn't matter, however, since Apple has included a driver for the printer. So...does anyone know what this problem might be or how we can troubleshoot it.

Here is my original thread on the topic: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1210434&stqc=true

Hi There, I too have just updated to Leopard (10.5) and now can't get my Lexmark P4350 to work, even after trying the driver included with leopard and downloading it from Lexmark site.

I have searched the internet extensively to try and fix the problem, but can't seem to find anything, its such a pain.

Is it just the case of waiting for Lexmark to create a Driver for the P4350 for Leopard?! (How long does something like that take??) How annoying, you really don't realise how vital a printer is until you cant get it working.

I'm in this non printing printer pool too. My X5470 will not work and I called and was told by a Lexmark employee that not until the end of the month would a driver that is Leopard compatible be available. Now I wonder if this will occur at all or are we all forced to go purchase a printer from Apple that is Leopard compatible? Kinda ticked off here to say the least. Couldn't even get Apple Care on the line to answer my question about this either. Shame on Apple for this.

And how is Apple responsible for a third party vendor not supporting their product? I had a 5470 that I was lucky enough to have WalMart take back since I was in the 30 day purchase period. I then got a Brother MFC 240C and it works fine. I went to their website and downloaded the Leopard driver they released a day before Leopard was released. No problems at all

Hello all

I am in the same situation with the P4350, the annoying thing is, that my Mac sees the printer and in the print cue it says "printing" but nothing is happening. At the top of the print cue window it shows the message:

GenericClass: waiting for device

Connecting.

and then it just sits there.

Not too impressed at the moment as I just bought a new iMac for my father after raving about them for the last few years and now he cant print.
I think I may have to re-install Tiger until all these teething troubles are sorted out.

Also take a look at the following link for a list of Leopard ready Lexmark drivers:

Iv got the same problem..

Iv having to put all my uni work onto memory stick and plug the printer into my friends mac to get it to work.

Lexmark have lost a customer for this because im sorry but how much time do they need.. surely they knew leopard was on its way.

Im actually pleased it doesnt work because it gives me an excuse to get a new printer - £35 for a set of 2 inks... that last 2 days?

i think not!

James:
I wasn't asking for a lecture from you about 3rd party apps... Every time Apple upgrades there are issues that we are not advised about in advance that may not work and I would hope in the future that those apps. or other issues that could be a problem would be listed on the site before hand. I don't feel that would be too much to ask from Apple. I am looking for help on this support site not snide comments. Save them James, it only adds to the frustration many of us feel.

It's a simple question: Why should Apple be responsible for their vendors? Or the users who install haxies, etc, that cause instability? Should Apple have gone to Lexmark and told them to write a driver? Or should the have delayed Leopard until they did?

Many of those issues you mention Apple did not know about in the first place. My Mail works fine, but there are some whose Mail doesn't. Is that Apple's fault, or is it some plug-in like Letterbox?

Before I installed Leopard I went all the vendors of software I use to see if there was a Leopard update. If not, I didn't install it. Simple solution. I have an old Scanmaker 3800, should I excoriate Apple because it's not supported in Leopard? Or should I not install Leopard because one device doesn't work?

Some of are not as savvy as you Sir. I've been at this for 2 days now and have done everything that has been sent to me or told to go to find to fix the situation... Period! This is a support site, yes? I'm a senior citizen and don't appreciate sassy comments. Don't reply to anyone here like you've done to me, please. It is so not needed. I'm ending this thread with you now.
