mounted dmg files will not eject

I am having problems eject dmg mounted install files. Right now have 6 of them that won't go away...when you try to eject from finder...finder closes instead.

Anyone else experiencing this or have a solution.

MacBook Black, iMac G5, iPhone 8 gb, Mac OS X (10.4.10)

After a clean install, I had this same problem where I couldn't eject any disk images on my desktop. I restarted and haven't had the problem since.

Try logging out and restarting.

I've seen this on all of the Macs I've installed Leopard on - Clean, Archive and Upgrade installs - MacBooks, MacBook Pro, iBook and iMac.

It seems to go away after a while - not sure if it's the restarts that do it, but time seems to heal a lot of the initially strange behavior of Leopard.

And once all the strange stuff stops, the OS is lightning fast, and FULL of amazing features...

i have run into this issue as well on every single mac i have here (5 in total... i bought a family pack). a macbook, macbook pro, imac 2.8extreme, imac 2.4ghz, mini.

i did upgrades on all except the 24" imacs. those two machines were stripped and formatted and had fresh installs... but ALL machines are experiencing this issue.

and it definitely IS a finder issue. for those that need a work around until this is fixed, open up disk utility, and eject it from there. it will work fine and eject as it is supposed to from within disk utility... but it fails (just sits there) in finder, no matter what dmg file it is, or how it is ejected (right click on the desktop... drag to trash... click the eject button in finder.. etc)

hi,

Firstly make sure you aren't using the programs that are within the dmgs.
I had the same problem a couple days ago, I had 3 dmgs mounted on my desktop and they wouldn't eject at all. I tried to eject through finder, wouldn't work, so instead i just relaunched finder through the force quit option in the apple menu bar.

That seemed to do the trick just fine and when it settled down I could eject all the disks.

I have had the same problem from day one of 10.5 use.

Having said that It is not a constant problem, some days all my mounted DMG files eject no problem, other days only a restart works.

After a lot of experimentation and yelling at my screen I have found a temp solution if you have stuck mounted volumes and don't want to restart.

If you load up a program and open the 'save/open file' dialog box (e.g. while in safari press command+O) the mounted volume should appear under 'devices' on the left hand side (assuming that you haven't disabled this feature in Finder preferences). If you use the eject buttons next to each drive they should then eject as per normal (10.4 normal not 10.5 normal).
