Any courageous guesses to the meaning of this somber conversation reported in Disk Utility following a permission repair after installing OSX 10.5 ?
Thank you Frederick

Thank you for your contribution ElBiggus
I have little critical to say about terse warnings . They get your attention which is cool .
It appears to me that in contrast to the verbose reports or log files that once comprised these same actions that this is preferable .
It is the level of the report in terms of time , hierarchal reach , and cpu resources that grab my attention . I suspect that when it is addressed by Apple it will be either in a System update or unscheduled update . By which form Apple chooses we can measure the seriousness of this little matter . If they wait for a regular update it speaks to the idea that it is a livable problem .
I choose to maintain a regular Permissions repair as it appears to be good way to begin dealing with disk maintenance for me . For folks who feel it is trivial or soporific it might be a poor choice for contributing their valuable insights . However I appreciate the grounds for which folks base their reasoning as it not a topic I am able to penetrate very deeply . Thanks !

Here is what Apple support tells us:

"You can safely ignore this message. It is accurate, but not a cause for concern."
(Apple Support 2007-11-06 — Document No. 306925)

My question: Can any of you that receive this error message message reach another Mac using Back to My Mac? I am unable to connect to my desktop from any location except when I am on my home network. This is why I "repaired" permissions and started down this path in the first place.

Thank you.

Well for what its worth, when I updated to Leopard one of the first things I did was check for any updates. I installed the few that were available, and ran disk permissions. I too received the same SUID Warning. But to perhaps add some credence to some of the previous posters who suggested this message is merely a check of the original "receipt" to those in the current state, I installed Leopard a couple days later on my wife's machine and ran Disk Permissions and did not receive this message. Tonight, however, I ran the software update on her machine and one the updates was for ARD. It did mention it was for all users, so I installed it. Afterward ran DP and she then too had the message.

I just got my MBP yesterday, set up a couple of accounts, customized system prefs, then ran Software Update which found 8 updates, ran the updates, it asked to restart, hit the restart button, came back later to see SU apparently stalled in the "configuring 8 updates", left it for another hour, no progress. Restarted the computer. Checked SU & it showed 3 updates needed downloading. Decided to repair permissions first. Got error: Warning: SUID file "Systems/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDA gent" has been modified and will not be repaired." Booted from install disc, ran Disk Utility, same error.

Shut down the stupid, stupid computer. Went back to the aging e-Mac Tiger computer to troubleshoot the new, much-too-expensive-to-have-these-kinds-of-issues computer. I am blessed in that the e-Mac was deemed too decrepit by Apple to support Leopard. {Editorial: Should have stayed with Panther.}

Warning: SUID file has been modified and will not be repaired.
