Mouse lag

similar problem here (3 month old mbp) - but the mouse lag only lasts for about 5 seconds after i wake from sleep, then returns to normal. never had this problem with tiger.

I'm having the lag issue, too. After returning from sleep, things get(and stay) laggy. However, it's not just my trackpad that lags, it's also all the animations like magnification on the dock and switching spaces. I never had any lag issues with Tiger.

Turning off the AirPort made my trackpad lag much, much worse. Once I turned the AirPort back on, I got the same level of lag I had before.

Funny thing, I've got a logitech mouse connected and it never gets affected by the lag; just the trackpad.

same here... it's really frustrating. I can't even take my mbp to class, wake it up and do my normal tasks.... No fixes yet folks?

Ok so i got my macbook pro 2.2 ghz in July and as of two weeks ago I have been very pleased with my laptop. No cognitive dissonance whatsoever. Then I installed Leopard a couple weeks ago and now I'm experiencing a problem that many of you are when I wake my computer up from sleep i.e. my trackpad lags like crazy and it seems like the overall speed and performance of my computer is slowed. Even with my Bluetooth mouse the cursor lagging still exists. Sure, I can restart my computer to solve the problem, but why should I have to do that? I have my "spaces" perfectly configured with the applications that I want in each one and I shouldn't have to inconvenienced because someone f$%^ed up over at Apple when they designed Leopard. I expect nothing less than an immediate redress from Apple on this issue (in the form of a downloadable fix) similar to the expediency in which the whole iPhone price reduction debacle was handled. For a company that prides itself on functionality and reliability in its products, this is very disappointing to see. Hopefully someone from Apple actually reads these postings and a fix is in the making. I guess I'll go restart my computer now because I CAN'T STAND having my cursor move like this. Good luck to the rest of you who have this same problem. Hopefully our grievances will be heard.

I'm having this problem too: It's definitely airport related, at least for me. Anytime I turn the Airport card on, the mouse and/or trackpad (checked with diff combos and diff mice), my cursor will go through a little dance, where it locks up, jumps somewhere, locks up again, etc etc, as many as 5 times, as few as 2, but happens every time. Easily repeatable at will. Also, when I'm connected, and the signal drops/reconnects, I get this repeatedly.

No helpful error messages in the console unfortunately. CPU usage goes up a few percent but not too noticeable.

Here's hoping Apple jumps on this. Same problem exists in both 10.5 and 10.5.1. Never had this trouble in 10.4.x. I'm not holding my breath though... Sigh.

Just a moment ago I got a kernel panic while turning off my airport card, .. This is getting bad : P

Well I'm pleased to find this post as my computer isnt the only one with this issue. My main concern is does anyone know if this issue will be resolved by Mac? I am a Graphic Designer and cannot work with a jumping delayed mouse. Is anyone aware if Mac would refund as we all payed X (ALOT) amount of dollars for a system that in my case does not perform to my needs?

I suspect Apple wouldn't refund for Leopard. Could you roll back to Tiger until this issue has been worked out? For me, while 10.5.1 didn't completed solve the issue, it has greatly reduced its frequency of occurrence.

Yes, I have also experienced this problem. When waking my MBP from sleep, it takes unusually long to come up and then the mouse is almost impossible to use. This has happened repeatedly, and as of yesterday, on 10.5.1.

I have seen other discussions that said it had to do with Airport, which if I disable Airport while the mouse is laggy, the mouse becomes more sensitive (more than normal). My hypothesis right now is that if I disable my Airport connection before closing the lid, I will not get stuck when I open the lid again. So far, I have not had the problem since I started doing this. This potential workaround is also supported by the fact that I have not had this problem when I am at my desk because when I have it there I use an ethernet connection and therefore disable the Airport anyway.

However, it is pretty clear to me, based on my experience with the problem and the amount of users on the Internet that appear to have the same problem that it is a bug that Apple has failed to acknowledge at this point and needs to fix. I am not sure if anyone has attempted to contact Apple concerning this problem, but I would be interested to know what they have had to say. I may contact them in the future and will be sure to post what I find out.

My mighty mouse is very erratic. I tried turning off Airport but this only made it worse.

Count me among the folks experiencing this. I have been quite pleased with Leopard until 10.5.1 was installed. I installed 10.5.1 Sat. night and it went off without a hitch. I awoke Sunday and tried to use my 3 month old Macbook Pro, but the trackpad had serious lag, couldn't click on anything, and the keyboard didn't work. I have my laptop set to never go to sleep, just to shut the display off after 30 minutes inactive. Wish I could test out the airport card, but because I can't actually do anything but slowly try to move the mouse around, I can't test turning it on and off. I am going to call Apple tonight after work and see what they have to say. May try an archive install to see if I can get things back to the way they were, i.e.

I'm having the exact same problem on my Macbook pro, and its quite annoying. I've tried so far just about everything I can think of to diagnose the problem, but no luck as of yet.

Symptoms:
- Wake computer from sleep - black screen
- System takes 20-30 seconds to "wake"
- Once system is awake and I've logged in, I can use the keyboard fine, but the trackpad or my logitech mouse are both insanely laggy
- Reboot system and everything is fine again

Attempted fixes:
- Disable airport seems to make things better for about 2 minutes then the mouse goes back to laggy.
- Unmount all drives and force sleep instead of closing lid

The only thing I can think of is that its something to do with the video adaptor, because from everything I can tell, the system is receiving the mouse input, it just takes a long time for the video to refresh. I've logged all mouse IO to a file and it fills up just by moving the mouse when its happening, but the mouse doesn't move on screen.

So, I'm thinking this has to go back to apple for them to fix, anyone know how to send in a ticket to them so they can look into the problem?

I went with a fresh install of Leopard on my 2.4 ghz MBP, and I have the same problem as well! Has anyone called Apple? I'm going to call them up right now. This is frustrating. I tried turning off Airport and experienced similar results. The lag went away momentarily then came back stronger before. It got to the point where the mouse would literally not move for 20 seconds, while still allowing me the ability to scroll.

I'm also having problems, 2.2 ghz MBP, 3 months old: when waking from sleep, perhaps 30% of the time (sometimes all together, sometimes days apart) the trackpad won't respond. A couple of times it was also the keyboard. I unchecked 'put hard drive to sleep', thinking that might help, but it still occurs. I don't know this is less than before. Restart cures it, and it's less likely to happen when the machine is sleeping shortly thereafter.

I restart my machine at least daily, usually a couple of times (even without this problem.) Seems worse in 10.5.1.

I do use Photoshop and Preview quite a bit, and run video from the web a few times a week. My wife has the same model machine, generally only uses browsers, Entourage and Word. She doesn't seem to have the problem, so this may lend credence to the idea that it's something related to the video card.
