Pointer jumpy on MPB (Leopard) after wake from sleep...

All,

My MacBook Pro's pointer is "jumpy" when the machine returns from sleep mode. Restarting the machine does clear out the issue. Has anyone else observed this behavior?

Thanks,

Josh

Once you reproduce the jumpy pointer can you open Terminal.app and run this command -

sudo dmesg <PRESS ENTER>
password: <ENTER YOUR PASSWORD>

and then copy the last 50 or so lines of output and paste it here?

Reason I ask is I had similar issue and I get a particular error when that happens - just want to verify if yours is the same case. If so we can open a problem report with Apple at http://bugreport.apple.com.

So, I've removed all semblance of iStat Pro and iStat Menu... I installed the 10.5.1 Combo Updater over my install of 10.5.1... all to no avail. If this machine goes to sleep (or I close the lid,) inevitably, when I wake it up, I have a jumpy pointer and the only way to resolve it is to restart.

This *****.

Basically, I need to restart every time I use the dang thing. It makes using it very unpleasant. Apple, please fix this. You're our only hope. 😟

This is happening for me on a new MacBook Pro, no mouse plugged in. Strictly with the trackpad. Next time it happens, I'll plug in a USB mouse and see if it's as jumpy.

This is seriously the most annoying bug I have ever encountered with any Apple product, ever. I'm anxious everytime I close the lid on this machine now. "Will it be inoperable when I get back? Will I have to restart?"

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Hi,

Is that the only problem you have ?

I got my MBP two weeks ago - it runs 10.5.1
(my first own Mac - I worked on Mac before at my work)

I have so far the following issues, all discussed on that forum, and around the web:
- Laggy MBP after wake from sleep (this include the jumpy mouse pointer)
- Keyboard freezing and not responding at all
- first key pressed missing

All these issues start to really make me mad. As many here, I not using my MBP just for to watch videos (and even if this was the case), it's my main computer for work !

The most annoying thing is that Apple is not even facing the stituation. These issues are now easily visible on this forum (and many others). People are going to Apple Stores and are calling AppleCare about them.

So please, I think the next Apple ad can wait. Give us information, tell us what you know about those issues.

Regards

Well, here's my crappy workaround for now. Seems to have avoided the issue for 24 hours.

1) In System Preference -> Energy Saver -> Power Adapter settings -> Options... uncheck "Wake for Network Administrator Access"

2) Whenever I can, right before walking away from the computer or closing the lid, I turn off Airport from the Airport menu.

Now, when I wake it from sleep, the mouse pointer is NOT jumpy.

$ucks that I have to do this, but at least I am not restarting 14 times a day.

No, I had it both on battery and power adapter. Not sure how you'd wonder that, given my post, but whatever.

All I'm saying is, doing the two steps above seems to have made it go away. Temporary, crappy workaround... but it's better than the alternative, of being forced to restart 47 times a day.

Now, It's possible that I didn't need to turn off "Wake for Ethernet Network Administrator Access" in Energy Saver. It's possible that simply turning off Airport before sleeping, would sidestep the issue. But I don't use Ethernet Network Admin Access, so it certainly didn't hurt to turn it off.

I said that because that option/param is only available in 'Setting for power adapter' (in Energy saving). So i was wondering if you had the problem only when plugged.

Otherwise, do you have the other problems i'm having (listed in my first post) ?

* Keyboard freezing and not responding at all
* first key pressed missing

Hello Everyone. I have had my new MBP 17" for 15 days. I am one day over the 14 day return period. I haven't used my MBP as much as I should have, and have just started to notice Pointer Jumpy and it wont wake up when I open it from sleep. Then suddenly after a minute it will wake up.

Do you think I should take it back or just wait for software updates? What's to say that a new MBP wont have the same issues?

Also sometimes the keyboard wont work at all! Then suddenly it starts working again! I moved everything over from my old laptop and then upgraded to Leopard. I am also current on the software update. Could you tell me what i-stat is? Did it come with my computer? Or is it an application one has to install? I have no idea if i have it on my computer.

Thanks.

Listen, clearly this is a Leopard issue. It is a new OS, and every aspect / configuration could never be truly tested prior to it going on sale. (I'm not saying its right)

(you want to talk buggy, try installing OS 7.5)

Although I am not having these issues on two 2.4 MBPs, allot of people are.

I have been working on Macs for over 15 years, and I can tell you that Apple has, in most all cases, made things right. Apple has never announced "Hey, sorry for the bugs, were working on it".

One day 10.5.2 will show up in your software update, and hopefully it will solve these problems.

Apple does not read these boards, but I am sure they are aware of the issues.

To the poster asking about istat. It is a 3rd party widget, and if you didn't manually install it - you don't have it.

Again, my MBP at home (fresh install) has not had these problems - nor has my work machine (basic upgrade), but that machine is plugged into a new mac keyboard with a wired mighty mouse.

There is an open Apple support ticket on this issue. So they are definitely aware of it.

I also alerted the developers of iStat, once the apparent connection surfaced upthread. So the fix could conceivably come from them or Apple. Or both.

Until then, I'll just have to live without iStat. It's not ideal, but it beats restarting the computer.

Other than the jumpy pointer, and it not waking up from sleep. My keyboard also squeaks when some of the keys are pressed. Anyone else with this issue? My old Powerbook Keyboard never felt like this one. Is it something that will get better over time? Or should I take it back? Remember I am at 15 days already, they might not even take it back! But I could try. I don't want to take it back, because as I said what's to say the next one isn't the same......Thanks
