Leopard - Keyboard Freeze?

Greetings fellow leopards
I'm having same problem as described above. Since Apple sold me a defective product that severely limits its use, I asked for a full refund WITHOUT sending the disk back. This was approved.

I Guess i am not the only one with this problem. Somehow i thought this was some strange software configuration, eventhough my MacOs has almost no extra software installed.
Gladly it's not a daily issue, it has only happened a couple of times.

My 2.4 GHz Core 2 MacBook Pro is the same. All upgrades up to date - I get a "1st" typed char no response until the keyboard comes alive after a slight delay. This is really a problem, 1st typed char in a password, etc. never registers. This was not a clean install over Tiger but everything else has seemed rock solid for weeks. When I boot into Vista Ultimate (BootCamp) - don't seem to have the problem on the Windows side.

I don't have any Microsoft products at all, and I my keyboard freezes up intermittently since soon after installing Leopard.

Given the numerous posts in the many related forum topics I've read, I'm pretty sure it's just Leopard. 😟 People have devised different ways of dealing with it, but I suspect anything you do, the keyboard will always start working again in 10-30 seconds.

If you go to preferences, you can set the keyboard to go to sleep, the same way your monitor does.
Have any of you tried setting it to "never"?

I'm wondering if what is happening is that the keyboard is going to sleep when it shouldn't be and is slow to wake up.

I have a Macbook Pro (less than one month old)
Upgraded from Tiger
Only additional software installed was NeoOffice following the Leopard upgrade. No office installed.
Keyboard just froze for the first time after shutting restarting earlier today

I purchased my macbook about three weeks ago, and had no problems with it until last night. The keyboard began freezing up in the same way that everyone else has described, but with mine it was very frequently, only about three or four minutes between freeze-ups. I installed the software update that I became aware of this morning, and haven't had any more problems with it yet. I'm not saying it's a fix, only time will tell that. But so far it's worked

Reluctant I have to add myself to this list.
Keyboard freezes here too... No microsoft warez, no quicksilver, no simbl or whatever.
Leopard, clean install and updated.

Please fix apple! Don't leave my comp a flakey unreliable piece of machinery!!!

I have the same problem. Got a new 2,2 GHz MacBook (preinstalled with Leopard) and the keyboard freezes ~5 times per day. The only way to get the keyboard back to work (for me) is to send the MacBook to sleep and wake it up again 😟

Sadly for Apple this is my first and last purchase. Don't try and tell me how stable mac is vs pc, i have all the proof i need. airport disk utility not mounting, cannot even backup to it with time machine (***), frozen keyboard every few min, a laptop i could cook my dinner on it gets so hot, etc etc.

I just had this problem upon waking.
What is odd is thatI could enter my password but once at the desktop I had no keyboard input (not even lights). If I closed the lid and opened again then I could, again, input my password but once at the desktop I had no keyboard again.

I'm not sure if this helps but I have see an odd message in the log. See the first and last lines. Odd because I didn't have any USB devices plugged in when I put my MBP to sleep last night.

It happens with a new Leopard-installed-as-new MacBook 2.2Ghz machine, now with 10.5.1 installed. Sometimes keyboard just comes back after a few minutes of key presses. Haven't tried sleeping and waking or re-booting. Mouse works fine. At other times, Command-character (eg: Cmmd-Q to quit app) also stops on some apps. Irritating.

Oh dear - me too. Bought a Intel-based Macbook Pro recently, everything OK until I installed Leopard. I regularly shut the lid to move offices and about once a day the keyboard and the left-hand USB port become unresponsive (strangely, the right-hand USB port is unaffected. Have to reboot... Suspected it was a hardware fault until I found this thread.

Wake up Apple, we want fix!!

I have a black Macbook purchased right after the new version came out circa 1 Nov 07. The freeze occurs primarily when I'm in a browser, but frnkly I think that's because I am using my browsers more heavily than any thing else. Same behavior in Firefox and Safari.

I have Office installed, but that's not where I've been when the freezes occur.

Machine came with Leopard as native OS.

Well now, turns out i had microsoft warez installed after all...
I deinstalled Flip4mac and experienced no more keyboard lockups.
Let's hope it won't happen again!
