Phone will not ring

OK - This is a well worn, unaddressed issue with the iPhone. Basically, after the phone goes to "sleep" for a while, it does not wake up to receive an incoming call. I did a search on this forum for "does not ring" and got 10+ pages of results. I have version 1.1.1 of the software. The "silent" button is not the issue. The "ring volume" is not the issue. Mail is on manual refresh. The phone refuses to wake up for an incoming call. As soon as I wake it up manually, it shows the "missed call" message. If the phone is awake and I call it - it rings fine.

I have experimented a while trying to see if anything might stop the problem. Powering off and on does not affect it. Changing ringtone does not affect it. However, two things I noticed did seem to work.

1 - Set the wireless network ON i.e. Edge OFF - phone seems to work OK
2 - Do a Network Reset from the Settings section.

Will keep testing and report back.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!!!!!!!

===> My problem was when people called me..... my phone wouldnt ring... but later on after the fact... it would just show me a missed call and maybe a voicemail like 15 minutes later....

PHONE NOT RINGING...! I'VE HAD IT FOR ALMOST 2-3 MONTHS...! DID ALL THE THINGS EVERYONE ON THIS FORUM AS WELL AS MANY OTHER FORUMS ONLINE RECOMMENDED!!!!!

NOTHING WORKED....! RESET PHONE....., RESTORED PHONE...., CALLED APPLE......, CALLED ATT....., CALLED EVERYONE AND THEIR MAMA!!!!

NOTHING WORKED..!

GUESS WHAT?

I just replaced my iphone at the APPLE store yesterday... They ONLY replace your phone with a Refurbished one....... BUT...BUT.... the refurbished phones are much better than the new phones as they undergo twice as much tests on them than the new phones. YOU DONT BELIEVE ME...! ASK THE REPS....!

I ASKED 4 REPS IN 4 DIFFERENT APPLE STORES.... ALL ANSWERED THE SAME!!!!

LUCKILY, The battery, the complete outer cover of the phone as well as some of the inner workings are brand new though!!!!

-------- RESULTS ---------

SPEAKER PHONE: MUCH MUCH LOUDER... MUCH BETTER

NOT RECEIVING CALLS: ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEMS AS OF YET

ME MYSELF AND I? VERY HAPPY!!!!!!

My phone wouldn't ring with incoming calls either. I tried everything you guys did and was just about to take it back to the store when I turned the phone to the side and noticed a small black tab on the side of my phone on the left hand side near the top. I looked in the user manual on page 42 http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhoneUserGuide.pdf. It's the slider for the manual ring mode selection. Mine was set on silent. Switched it over and can now hear incoming calls.
