After installing Leopard the R1800 printer no longer worked. The only printer driver on the Epson website is for an Intel Mac, not a powerpc. A call to Epson verified there is no driver available for the powerpc. They claimed to be working on it and asked me to check back to their website periodically. As for now I have an expensive boat anchor.
Download Epson Easyprint version 3.1.b.A that was added to the Epson site on 11/8/07. I deleted my Epson from my printer panel (go to Systems preferences/Printers) and then I installed this driver and now it works fine. Hope this helps!
I am using Leopard 10.5.1 and I just checked....yes, I can now select finest detail and best photo, etc. My print quality is fine. Click on the little arrow box next to the printer drop down box where you select your printer to get those options (paper type, quality etc). Good luck!
Interesting. I went to the site and downloaded that driver - but my system doesn't see it. Also, according to Epson, this driver only works with certain applications:
"These software applications currently support Epson EasyPrint:
- Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 (Windows only)
- Epson Smart Panel 3.2
- Epson Copy Utility 3.0"
So, since I don't have any of those .......
And, I cannot find the driver in my System Preferences->Printers panel.
The only option I have is the R1800 Gutenprint. Good thing there was a RitzPix nearby lastweek when I had that rush group photo job!
Hi, I have exactly the same problem (but wish I had a boat for my anchor). The Epson website stated yesterday that driver/s will be available for the R1800 'in November' so keep watching that space.
I have been reviewing your prior discussions and I too have been having some difficulties. I installed the new drivers and am able to print just fine, however I notice that my color is off. My photos are now slightly lighter with less contrast. Have you experienced this problem?
After upgrade to Leopard, I contacted Epson tech support. They had me remove the Epson folder from Macintosh HD and restart the computer- then install Epson driver for R1800 (the 10.4 PPC version - it is number v2.1bA (which downloads the "epson11510dmg"
I printed numerous items without any problem or loss of features to set the prints as I wanted, and as they had always been before upgrading to Leopard. No changes of capabilities/settings at all, no problem of any kind.
It worked flawlessly for me. Also, my printer is long out of warranty and this was no problem to them whatsoever. They helped with every facet of the removal, new installation and printing test photos.
Great suggestion...I added the epson11510dmg driver. My prints with PS3 are now fine, but the output from Lightroom is very weak and wimpy looking! I'm using the same settings. Can't figure out why one works and the other doesn't!
I have spoken to Adobe about this and the reason this is happening in lightroom still seems to be the result of drivers not being 100%. Observations are that print setup in the menu of lightroom doesnt transfer settings chosen to "print setting" in the print module section of lightroom (button down on RH corner next to Print). You have to double check everything again at final print stage ("print" button) as it will have changed This also goes for orientation etcetec. In addition to this I have noticed that disabling printer management and using lightroom is not as good as using printer manage!. Adobe said they are now going to work on recreating all the issues I worked through with them by phone. In addition to this Epson Australia did a walk through with me on phone yesterday re lightroom and agree that there are still major driver issues.
So workaround Im using is
1. Printer manage
2. Double check settings are correct when print button hit in print module as printer settings and setup in the menu will have changed back to default
Rgds

This is very odd. I have a dual G5 and did a clean install with migration assistant after and it prints like it always did with Photoshop CS3, driver settings as usual with the ability to select all options like paper size and colour management etc.
This is with the latest drivers which are not these new 2007 vintage ones discussed here..
This fixed my issue. Thanks. I was getting very frustrated there. I now have beautiful prints off my macbookpro now. Good thing because my PowerMac G5 went on the fritz big-time tonight. Gah! Technology!!!!
