Quicktime Logo on all website videos i.e. youtube, myspace

Please help. I have Quicktime Pro. Any website that has video on it wont let me play it. It always has the quicktime logo on the screen where the video should be!!!! I tried changing the MIME settings in quicktime preferences. I unchecked the box next to miscellaneous as i read on youtube to do this. Im new to apple mac so Im still getting used to it. This might sound like a stupid question but when you change settings and just close the box using the x button does this apply the changes or how do I apply the changes after changing settings?? Please if anyone has a solution for me please tell me as im going mental trying to work it out. Macbook is going to have itself a little fall from top floor window if I cant fix it LMAO. Cheers people. Tracy

Dear QuickTime Kirk or may I call you QuickTime,
Thanks for the suggestion which I executed as soon as I read it a day or two ago. Unfortunately, it made no difference and I can only get Q?-free flash stuff on my old G4 with Tiger, to whose stability and reliability I have now sadly entrusted all mail and web related work.
Leopard is in my view simply a cosmetic upgrade and clearly has some BAD QT and web problems. Removing (on another correspondent's advice) the QT webplugin helped a little, so at long last I could run the otherwise unviewable Leopard demo on Apple's own website (ironic or what?); but opening, for example, Epson's website presented me still with loads of Q?s which are beginning to undermine my confidence in the new OS.
But thanks for your kind interest!

I do not have this problem with my Intel iMac 10.5, but I am experiencing this problem on my non-intel G4 after I upgraded to 10.5, and when I went to advanced settings, there is a box for Adobe Flash that is checked, and under that is a button for MIME which when opened shows an unchecked box for misc. which contains 2 boxes: 1 for Quicktime HTML which is checked & 1 unchecked for SMIL 1.0 - however the misc. box is unchecked and I am unable to check it as it always opens back up as unchecked after I close Quicktime and then re-open it. Again, I am only having this problem after installing 10.5 on my non-intel G4 PPC and am having no problem on my intel G5 with the Q symbol and ? mark over it. My G4 does play videos Quicktime etc. but not youtube and also animated pics on diff sites...

I was having this problem on my non-intel G4 but not my intel G5 - it works fine... This is how I fixed 10.5 on my G4 which uses Quicktime 7.2.1 (instead of 7.2 in 10.4.10).

Turn on your mac and open your booted drive. then goto <library>, goto <internet plugins>, find <quicktime plugin.webplugin> and move it to the trash... make sure you get the right 1, not plugin.plugin. Close all windows, then open Safari and go to youtube and try it - it works for me and got rid of all other Q?.

Did I mention that I kept the plugin.webplugin on my desktop in case it's removal caused other problems? Oooops... Anyway, now youtube is working but I'm still having problems with the Q? on other webpages. I'm on the phone with apple support right now and will let you know what happens...

I don't know why removing the .webplugin does what it does (obviously there is a conflict with the new OS) but I'd be willing to bet there's a bug with 10.5 - I will let you know what apple says.

I spent 3 hrs on the phone with Apple = 42 min wait + 60 min with level 1 tech and no solution, transfered to level 2 tech = 48 min wait + 68 min and then found out there was a new download QuickTime 3.0 which I was assured would fix my problem. Downloaded QT 3.0 and computer froze and had to be manually restarted twice and then told to boot using my 10.5 Install DVD and then I was cut off. Tried rebooting machine and it started right up but now bigger problem with Q? - went to library > internet plugins and in 3.0 there is no QT plugin.webplugin to remove so now that's not an option. Most of my 3rd party apps are running at 1/4 speed and/or are jerky... I'm thinking of re-installing 10.4.10 until Apple gets their OS together - Really bad job of beta testing if you ask me!

Similar problem.
My G4 - get QT logo with big "?"
Can't access UTube or many others. My iMac G5 is OK, haven't checked my PowerBook G4 yet.
All since upgrading to Leopard
Have checked the prefs, re-set, re-booted, No Better.
Library file with Internet plug-ins is Empty. Are there other prefs that should be trashed?
Can't access many video clips on my home page etc.
For me Leopard has been a real pain in the neck. Initially computer wouldn't re-start; had to do archive installation then duplicated my system & spent several days & nights trying to trash unnecessary duplicates.
Just downloaded the QT update - No Better

Frustrating

When we had QT 7.2.0 (10.4.10) it was overridden in the 10.5 install by QT 7.2.1 and that's when the problems started. Then (7.2.1) was when you could take the QT plugin.webplugin out of the internet file in the library and dump it thus solving the Q? on some sites (youtube) but not all (weird.) But with the new download QT 7.3, there is no such file to remove so now almost all webpages are showing Q?. Also, everything got so slow...

I tried removing Plugin "quicktime plugin.webplugin" + re-set the mime prefs, re-set the permissions, even trashed all the prefs re: QT (user>lib>pref) & re-botted.

Still No Luck

The u-tube not a real problem, but other web sites poise a major problem.

QT itself works ok, just tired & frustrated with seeing the QT Logo with a big bright ?

Need some real help here from Apple.

I'm terribly sorry. I had checked Users>Library>Internet PlugIns & this is Empty.
However, my Library>Internet PlugIns does have the specified "QuickTime Plugin.webplugin". I did try to Trash this pugin & did try to redo the permissions. I even went to Apple site & re-loaded Quicktime 7.3.0
I have also trashed the Prefs with "Quicktime" in Users>Library>Preferences.
Restarted after each of above trashings.
Tried Firefox & reloaded the recommended plugins - no better. Have Unselected Flash in the QT prefs. Possibly just have not yet hit the right combination of these.
My G4 PowerBook has no QT problem nor does my G5 iMac.

Thanks
