Screen Goes Black after a few minutes

After a few minutes of sitting idle my MacBook Pro's screen goes black. When you move the mouse the screen comes back to life, you see a bit of the screen saver, then it goes back to the desktop. If the computer is left to sit (until the screen is set to turn off) the sleep light will come on (steady, not pulsing). If the screen is set to never sleep, there is not issues.

How can I fix this, it's really annoying.

MacBook Pro running 10.5.1.

I set my screen save to go on after five minutes. My power adapter setting are set to never put the computer to sleep and to never put the display to sleep. Under options, Automatically reduce the brightness... is not checked.

My screen is not going out!!! The screen saver is coming on as planned. All is well. I think.

O.k. people, here's the latest...

I called AppleCare again last week now the Leopard install rush is over. I was transferred to the 2nd level help tech who entered all my details again, made a few phone calls, and then had me download a capture program and upload all sorts of logs, that were to be forwarded to 'engineering.'

Earlier this week, I got a call saying that engineering wanted a few more log files, capture data, and some preference files.

Today, I got a call back, saying that engineering now sees a problem, can duplicate it, and will be hard at work now trying to fix it! 'bout time!

However, all that was said, was to "Check your Software Update" frequently now, and something should be out soon.

Thought I would chip in and help make this problem more noticed by apple. Wow is it annoying! There's a 3 minute time limit on anything (goodbye video) unless you download third party software!

BTW if you guys are looking for something until Apple fixes it try looking up Caffeine. I was browsing around for a temporary fix and I found it at versiontracker.com i think. it allows you to toggle the screen saver and automatic dim (not separately, unfortunately). at least that kind of helps. kind of.

fix it apple! please!

add me to the list....this MUST be Leopard related

new MB Pro a week and a half

10.5.1

if the display sleep option is set to anything other than never, it sleeps the display after 1-3 minutes.

and sometimes it doesn't recognize the first letter I type if I haven't touched the machine for a couple of minutes.

I tried booting it into intel 10.4.10 today to see if it was OS related, but it wouldn't boot....maybe it would boot in intel 10.4.11, but it was my mom's hard drive and for their own reasons, my parents don't want to move to 10.4.11 so I won't know if it can boot in 10.4.11 and not have an issue

usually macs can't boot from an OS version earlier than what they shipped with anyways....but I do hope apple fixes this if it is indeed a software issue very soon in Leopard

other than those 2 things, the machine works great.....it could be worse
