Screen Goes Black after a few minutes

same problem here with MBP with leopard, will file a bug report as well.

I too had this problem on my new MBP... But I've fixed it! Saw the post in another thread here.

Simply go to System Preferences>Keyboard and Mouse>Keyboard and then tick Illuminate Keyboard in Low Light Conditions (it's probably already ticked) and then move the slider to Never.

I hope it fixes it for all you too. Whether it's light or dark, regardless of whether my keyboard is illuminated or not, now my screen stays on as per my power saver settings (on either battery or power adapter)

Unfortunately, this fix did not work for me. Backlight still shuts off after a few minutes. Has anyone else had success with this fix?

Ooo, you had me more giddy than a kid on Christmas Eve! I made that change, and alas.... It didn't do a thing. The screen still wants to disappear.

Bugger. Sorry it didn't work for you guys! Mmm... it IS curious isn't it?!

Here's what I've come up with:

If I set the keyboard illumination to never go off and I also select the screen to dim before going to sleep then the screen will dim after 10 or so minutes but will remain dimmed until such a time that I have selected the screen goes to sleep (I have it set to half an hour). If, however, I uncheck the option to have the screen dim before going to sleep then the screen backlight will go off after 10 or so minutes, ie: the same amount of time the screen dims in the above scenario. In this instance the backlight only has gone off as the pictures on the screen can still be faintly seen.

Depending how I've set it up, the screen will always dim or the backlight will go out after 10 or so minutes of inactivity.

I believe my problems are consistent with everyone elses... Hopefully it's a bug that will be addressed soon!

Have same problems with black screen and 1st key not being input (sporadic problem). As it concerns black screen if I go to battery power screensaver activates and works fine...switch back to power adapter and screen goes black and no screensaver. Using a 17" Macbook Pro 2.4 and Leopard 10.5.1

My MBP is a casualty, too.

I am having same problems. My brightness controls have not been working, so I am looking at a screen which is on the dimmest settings. I am now dealing with my screen going black as it is booting up right before my desk top comes up.
Any thoughts.

Same problem. MBP 2.2 10.4.11 Not system related, yes MBP related.

Apple in the Netherlands also acts like we are the only ones experiencing this problem.. ;-(

Help. We can take it back in under warranty, but that can take a long time they say.

I find it strange there is no acknowledgment of a problem by Apple, which would save all of us a lot of time and aggravation.

How common is this problem?

Tried your keyboard back light thing - didn't work for me. What are your other setting, i.e., sleep, screen saver, etc.

same problem on my 2.2 mbp. when i switched to leopard it didn't happen, at first. since then it happens all the time, if i have the screen set to never sleep then there is no issue. Come On Apple come out with 10.5.2 fast and fix this!
