Here is the issue. At random, when I am using my mighty mouse (wired) it will skip to the top left or top right corner of the screen and I have no idea why. I have repaired permissions and all that good stuff. Could it be the mouse?
Powerbook G4 15 (FW 800), iMac 20" alum, intel 2.4,
Mac OS X (10.4.10)
Your details at the bottom state that you have a Powerbook too. Does it do it when attached to that? As an alternative, have you tried operating the mouse on a plain piece of paper?
I am having the same problem. It is particularly frustrating on a 24 inch monitor, when I am about to click and it skips over to another window and clicks there instead of where I want. Not a good thing when one is doing detailed editing in Photoshop. I notice there is a new iMac bug fix available. I will try that today.
I have this problem myself and many others have reported it, so it appears to be a common issue. In my case, it seems to happen only when I inadvertently lift the mouse off of the mouse pad. I am inclined to believe that the optical sensor in the Mighty Mouse sometimes loses its tracking if it isn't kept flush with the mouse pad.
Note that the bug (random repositioning of the mouse pointer) is related to the Airport searching for a connection. If you turn off the airport, the behavior immediately ceases.
I'm having this problem as well. I took my iMac out of the box yesterday (this is after having returned the one I brought home last week -- DOA) so I'm pretty frustrated by this all and thinking seriously of going back to my trusty 6-year old PC. Trying to surf the web this evening my mouse starts jumping all over the screen. Even when the mouse is just sitting there, the cursor sort of jumps around, 1/16th of an inch or so almost all the time, sometimes a couple of inches at a time, and somtimes all the way accross the screen.
Is everyone having this problem using a wireless mouse? I have turned off airport and moved my portable phone base. Could a neighbor's bluetooth be interfering? I cannot find any information about what to do in this case.
Hi, with the USB MM the jumping is usually cured by using a plain mouse pad.
Have you tried resetting the Mouse settings within System Preferences->k/b & mouse?
Just another suggestion - use a different brand of battery (maybe non rechargeable)..L
I appreciate the suggestions, but I don't think any of that is the problem. It's a wireless mouse that I've used on my plain wooden desktop as well as a sheet of white paper and the cardbord back of a legal pad. All with the same resulsts. Plus, it comes and goes. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, sometimes it's way out of control, whether I'm actually trying to use the mouse or not.
I did try adjusting all of the settings under system preferences. Reduced tracking speed made the tweaking less noticiable, but also drove me nuts. Removing and re-synching the device didn't do any good either. It's very weird. I think it's got to be an interference issue. Or else I just need a new mouse. Interestingly, the first iMac I had didn't have this problem any time in the last week ... it had several other major problems, but not this one. I'm really begining to think the intel-base aluminum version must be the Pinto of iMacs.
I have this issue, I had it on the iMac G4 also for several months. Random curser jumping.
Same thing with the new iMac silver.
Someone suggested powering down peripherals. I turned printer and scanner off. So far no occurrence.
It has only been one day...So far so good.
