Mouse Skips

Here is the issue. At random, when I am using my mighty mouse (wired) it will skip to the top left or top right corner of the screen and I have no idea why. I have repaired permissions and all that good stuff. Could it be the mouse?

I second Elmac's post. I have an Aluminum 20" iMac with the wired (USB) Mighty Mouse, and the mouse cursor would jump randomly too--it would either go a few inches to the opposite direction from where I was moving it, or it would go to one of the corners of the screen (very annoying if you have Hot Corners enabled!). I have also experienced the same issue with another optical mouse branded A4 Tech. With both Mighty Mouse and A4 Tech mouse, the issue would occur on thin plastic mouse pads (with rubber underneath of course) that had were slightly shiny with patterns on them. I am not sure if the shine or the patterns were the issue (or both!), but I noticed when the mouse moved across one of the lines on my mouse pad, it would trigger the mouse cursor to move backwards. So in both cases, the issue was remedied with those thick, cloth-topped, rubber mouse pads with solid color. Mighty Mouse and A4 Tech mouse no longer have problems with the jerking cursor anymore, now that they use the cloth-topped thick mouse pads (or mouse mats as others may say). It is worth a try--for Mighty Mouse, I bought my thick rubber mouse pad for just over $5 CAD at Staples and the brand is Staples (model# 382954), but of course you could purchase this type of mouse pad at many different computer/electronics/office stores, (I could have bought an equivalent mouse pad elsewhere, but the price at this store in my area was the best deal). I am not sure what brand of mouse pad I got for A4 Tech mouse--I got that mouse pad years ago at a custom PC store, and I don't think it says the brand on it, but it looks pretty much identical to the one I got at Staples for Mighty Mouse.
I have read some sources online that mention that patterned and reflective surfaces may cause erratic mouse cursor behavior in optical mouses.
Oddly enough, I have another optical mouse (Macally ICEMINI), and it works just fine on the patterned, shiny, thin plastic mousemats that Mighty Mouse and A4 Tech mouse have trouble with.
I hope switching mousemats helps someone else too. Maybe there is another type of mousepad that is compatible with Mighty Mouse--if anyone knows, please post. Happy mousing! 🙂
Cya!

P.S. Must I say, I really enjoy working with Mighty Mouse, and it's the best mouse I've ever owned. I am so glad I found a mouse pad that is compatible with it.
