DMG files I download end up as EXE files

DMG files I download end up as EXE files

This is weird, now that i have Leopard (after Tiger) when i download DMG files they end up on my desktop as EXE files. 1. i thought downloads were supposed to go in the new downloads folder and 2. why the heck are they downloading as EXE files and not DMG??!! No i did not choose the windows version download.

Please help

I'm anxious to hear on this one too. The same thing happened with my wife's laptop but no problem with my iMac. A reinstall of Leopard fixed it.

Hmm i think it was a Netscape problem as it worked with Firefox. Maybe when i installed Leopard i didn't install Netscape properly.

I thought a Netscape reinstall would fix it, but i still seem to have the same problem. I guess i will have to rely on Firefox for downloads for now; what a faff!!

Sorted the problem. When i had uninstalled Netscape before, i had not also deleted the Navigator folder found here: User Home folder/Library/Application Support/Navigator.

I backed up my bookmarks.html folder (in a sub folder in the above mentioned Navigator folder) and deleted the rest. I then reinstalled Navigator and put the bookmarks.html file back . All works fine now. I suggest you back up all the Navigator/Firefox files you delete however in case you need anything else
