do brand new iphones arrive in box fully charged?

Here is my situation:
10.27 sat bought new iphone
10.30 notice that the face of phone is defective
10.31 went to genius bar, they replace my iphone with BRAND NEW IPHONE.

The issue is this: the guy at the genius bar hands me the new phone activated with my cell phone number. however, the phone is fully charged. my husband seems to think that they replace my iphone with one that was REFURBISHED claiming that brand new iphones do not arrive in box fully charged. I claim that they do not stock refurbished items at the retail stores, you can only get refurbished items online. He now wants me to go back to the store, demand that i receive another iphone with proof that the phone was never used.

can anybody out there verify that some brand new iphones do indeed arrive in box fully charged?
thanks!

The original 4gb iPhone I bought was almost dead on arrival. My refurbished iPhone I got as replacement was fully charged. I think as has been said, it's entirely based on how long they've had it in the store. As for getting a new phone versus a refurb as replacement, it would depend on whether or not the store has refurbs of the phone in stock. I've heard that you'll get a refurb of the 8gb if they have them. And you'll definately get a refurb of the 4gb if they have them in stock. I would think that maybe the reason you were given a new one, is that your original purchase was only a few days old.

The iphone is shipped with a charge.

Now depending how long the iphone was setting on the shelf will determine how much charge it has.
This is because that when the iphone is in standby, it still uses a very small charge.

So, if the iphone you received has only been on the shelf a few days or about a week, then it would probably have a pretty good charge.

Hi,

First let me say, yes, MINE was fully charged! When I brought back my iPhone, due to defective heat issue, they replaced my iPhone with a NEW one. How do I categorically know this? While seated at the genius bar, the rep brought out from the back a BRAND NEW iPhone, opened it up in front of me and did ALL of the sim card and setup right there in front of me. Smart on his part! It left NO question as to what type of iPhone I received, and maybe your rep should have done the same thing!

The other replies to your thread point out a very valid point, it depends on how long it sat in the back room. So, you can answer this one yourself, pretty easily as well. Look at the back of your box and see when your iPhone was made, referred to as "Build Week"! How, read the 4th and 5th characters in the serial number. Example, 7C740, would indicate this iPhone was made in week "40"! This serial number or higher would not have been seating long. In MY case, I returned a week 32 and received a week 40! Just out of curiosity, when you got your first iPhone did you notice if it was charged? Look on your receipt and see what the Build Week was on that iPhone, again the 4th and 5th characters. Was it made before or after your current iPhone?

Hoped I was able to help! Just some thoughts and my 2 cents!
