CD doesn't import when I click "import"

When I stick a blank CD in that I do not have in my library, SOMETIMES, after it asks me if I want to import and I agree, the CD disappears from under "Devices" and does not import. Only when I eject and reinsert does it import (after asking me if i want to import it). This happens intermittently.

i did a lot of searching high & low for any solutions; i came up pretty empty. only thing i have found consistent with all MBP's with numerous OS and hardware probs was that when the HD was replaced with another manufacturer's HD, and possibly larger, things got much better.

also, i found that keeping it cool always helped significantly. there was a Discussions Thread that Apple shut down as so many had these and many other complaints, and a lot of them had similar probs with similar hardware components, sometimes same OS as well. some changes helped, others not so much, others are struggling to deal with getting new MBP's - but then the same probs surfaced again with those! some even suspect Apple is trying to keep a lid on these costly design flaws and software conflicts. don't blame 'em!

it's a tough call-! imperfect machines made by imperfect people! but i've had very few probs with my old iBook G4 and Tiger!

may-be..! again - imperfect products made by imperfect persons...! it was really odd seeing +*so many*+ MBP's affected so, esp. if they run off Leopard-! don't you think that's odd?? iTunes os pretty much ok, i think. but those poor Members-! i feel for them..

creepy. or just strange coincidence. +ghosts in the machines or software.....+ =O

First cleaning the player & discs were engaged; however, it did nothing to solve my problem of: importing DVDs in the iMac half-dome with a 80 gig/one gig upgrade ram on 10.4.11.
Next on the agenda was re-loading a brand new (no upgrade) iTunes 7.5; after which, the imports failed again. This failure was not only w/ my marvy DVDs, but with commercial CDs as well.

May I venture an opinion? I get the feeling that Apple is holding music from importing in 7.5: My question: Why (and also) is this an error?

My iMac turned up yesterday and I was quite excited about importing my CD collection into itunes, as I was never really that compelled to use it under Windows. However, I have been experiencing exactly the same problem you have all seen and it really quite frustrating. I am bit going to sit down and keep reinserting CDs as I will loose the will to live.

So, I just wanted to add my voice to all those that have reported the problem here in the hope that Apple will start to look into this.

Cheers

My last posting also show hints of being a madwoman...
Today I inserted a brand new, and never used commercial disc. To much of my dismay, this disc was burned and kept in the library & playlist.
So here is my thought: Remember the 31Dec post when I described my cleaning agents?
In my humble opinion, I need to upgrade my Maxell Cleaning Cloths bought for $4.00 to a more complete and liquid one for much more money.
i cannot say this will solve all problems rendered; however, it would explain how some discs refused to mount until whatever was blocking the DVD's path was flittered aside...
I promise to keep all up to date. Please do not become overwhelmed like me...

I am having the same problem (upon selecting "yes" to import a CD into iTunes, the CD unmounts and does not return to iTunes or Finder until I eject and re-insert the CD). I have a brand new iMac. Tiger was installed on my machine for only about 60 minutes after we got it out of the box. I immediately installed Leopard since it is 'the best operating system ever.' This problem is mildly frustrating, but as one post stated, this new iMac is just so ** pretty that I will give it a pass.....for now.

brand new macbook today and i am having the same problem. i am also having a problem with burning dvd's in finder and finder telling me in the verification process that it could not complete and disc is not reliable.

i was on tech supports line for 2 hours. the same thing happened to my old computer. here is what we tried (for disc burning, i think it's related)

created a new user and tried to burn. same error msg.
disc utility run with install disc
they want me to do an archive and install (i know this won't fix it because i did that and an erase and install-with no avail).
next step- talk to an apple specialist tomorrow.

ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! i am having serious problems with apples new OS (problem after problem). Ii feel like i am slowly transitions back into the horrible nightmares of windows.
