Same problem here, freezing seems the same after installing the 1.3 update, my iMac freezes when moving the cursor over the dock or when starting a Quartz based screen saver. It runs OK in safe mode.
I have a 24inch aluminium imac. I've had random freezing, which has been made worse since installing Leopard. With this software update it's really easy to make it freeze, just go into system preferences and select the Arabesque screen saver.
yep, screensaver and photobooth are the fastest ways getting it frozen. but after some restarts it even freezes using finder or safari / firefox...
i just called the appleSupport for getting a rna-code (before repair, i wanted to give the eagerly awaited "software-fix" a try), but now - finally - on monday i'll get it repaired...
Add me to the list. My 24" iMac is now EASIER to freeze than it was before. I don't know why Apple released this "fix." Or these pathetic pieces of hardware, for that matter. Mine's going back.
Well I've been having the freezing issue and weird artifacts on my screen issue also. I updated to 1.3 (Leopard) and it actually got worse. I brought my iMac into work (I work at an Apple Specialist) and we swapped out my RAM for 2x2GB chips and fired it up. Worked fine. I've been running 5-6 Terminal windows with 'top' going, iTunes visualizer, viewing the preview for that new screensaver included in Leopard and I've got Photobooth up. It hasn't given me any issues at all, and I've got all that running at the same time. I guess it just likes a lot RAM...maybe that approach will work for someone else.
I can confirm this - I work for more than a month in save mode. Normal booting freezes before the login screen appears. The update did
not change anything.
I purchased a new 24" iMac on October 6th, so far I have had no crashes what so ever. It seems if this were some sort of OS problem that I'd be having it too. I am running Leopard and have 0 problems with that either...so far. Believe me though, I'm not installing any software updates for the iMac, just in case.
Despite my concern having read some of the freezing threads, I took the plunge with my two week old 2.8 24" Intel iMac and ran the 1.3 update about ten minutes ago. My concern was that I had no obvious freezing issues. Having said that, I have had Activity Monitor appear to lock up but nothing else and certainly no hard restarts. The iMac in question has 4 GB RAM after I added more from Crucial on Tuesday. Risking all, I tried the Arabesque Screen Saver. All is well. No doubt I am tempting fate ....
