Plugging in Charger while Updating/Fresh Install

Hi guys,

I'm curious if it is OKAY to not have the adapter plugged in while doing an Update/Installation of an O.S. I have done so many times before with my old macbook , and nothing series has ever happened since I always do a fresh install when I know that my battery is higher then 75%.

Even when I partitioned my hard drive for Leopard, it started at 75% and when everything was done, I still had about 40%~45% left. And When I install Vista, It only uses about 10% battery life.

Does not plugging in the charger messes anything up such as showing it's percentage/battery time left? Or is it a "just in case" kind of thing?

I'm just curious. Thanks.

I'd classify it as a "just in case" since the battery vs. wall current issue is simply, for these occasions, boiling down to whether or not your MacBook is on or off (definitely a requirement). However, the likelihood of it going off or to sleep is much greater on battery power so it's a good idea to operate your MacBook plugged in during updates and installations. The results could be devastating if it went off in the middle.

So it's a strong "just in case" 😉
