LOVE Tiger, but anybody else have new soft "beeps" now?
Tiger is lightning. I couldn't believe how fast I reboot.
I did the archive and install.
BUT... (ain't there always?) uhhh... anybody else hear a very soft, steady rhythmic "beeping" (almost like a countdown) inside their G5 (2.5 for me)?
I heard this "new" sound immediately when the mute went on the office TV (plus my G5 is right up on my desk). It's soft but can't say I care for it.
Again it's very steady, almost like a countdown. Can't hear it over much, but I sure don't like my office quiet (kids away, TV off) as it gets into my head.
My beep definitely comes from the middle of the machine (front), and not the bottom where the PSU lives. Of course sound could be traveling up...?
But I still think it's more centered in the machine.
I bought my Dual 2.5 G5 about 3 weeks ago... no problems at all. AFTER the Tiger upgrade.. the I also get the soft beeps.
Not the power supply, everything was great before... Tiger did something in the software that now causes these soft beeps. At greater volume with the power settings (CPU HIGH) and at a lower volume when set to "automatic".
the beeps are almost like a second hand on a clock, beep, beep, beep... at first I thought it was the dashboard clock.. but it appears like some other code causing it within the OS.
Installing CHUD may fix it... but this does look like something that needs to be patched and that can be fixed all in software on the next Tiger update.
Again.. NOT a powersupply, fan or other problem... just a little soft beep (only after a tiger install) coming from somewhere inside the computer.
I'm just posting to assure that it is a problem (to add my post here about it) and that I think a Tiger update can fix it... For the moment I can live with it.. but when it's very quiet... it can drive you crazy and you need to put on a radio or something.. haha
The only thing that makes me think it isn't the power supply is that it would have done it from day one when I bought the computer. But it has only started as soon as I installed Tiger. Strangest thing!
I am looking to buy myself a DP 2.3 in the next few days... It will come with Tiger... am I to expect it to have this beeping too? ie do all G5 Towers with Tiger have this problem?
Just another hand raised here. My PM 2.5 has the same rhythmic chirping, about once per second. Definitely audible above the regular fan noise. I hope this is a software fix...
Same for me. No bleeps whatsoever on Panther up to and including 10.3.9. Updated to Tiger and no I have the 1 second chirps/bleeps coming from my machine. Very annoying! Come on Apple, this is not good
Well contrary to my first post in this topic my machine now shows signs of beeping as well. Luckily so far (touch wood) only at odd times usually early morning. I'm assuming though unless anyone has an explanation to the contrary the timing is just a coincidence.
I will await a fix with you guys.
Can a person get the new 2.3 or 2.7 AND not have it preloaded with Tiger? ie go with 10.3.9 till this is fixed? It seems from the posts that if you go to Tiger and then go back, the beeps are still there....
Holy Thursday I believe you are correct. Seems like the exact description of the PUS problem others have had. Tiger just brought it out because it works differently than Panther did.
