I've been having this problem for some time now. It is impossible to use the key combination Command + Q to shut down programs. Every other key combination works, but not that one. Any clues how to fix this?
iMac Intel Duo 20" 3 GB RAM,
Mac OS X (10.4.9),
MacBook 2.2
System Preferences->Keyboard & Mouse->Keyboard Shortcuts
Restore Defaults. Restart your applications
If that doesn't work, you probably have some type of 3rd party software installed that is not fully working on OSX Leopard and needs removing or updating.
Is this happening in all applications? Does your Q key work? I would make sure that it is happening with all applications try preview/itunes/safari. If it is happening in all maybe open textedit and verify that your q key actually works. Good luck.
Yeah, sure. Should've mentioned that. The Q key works. It just doesn't go with the command button, and I've tried it with every possible application... 😟
Is it set as a shortcut for Speech Recognition (System Preferences>Speech)? What about System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse>Keyboard Shortcuts, anything in there?
