PowerBook 1400cs Not Connecting to Internet

What, exactly, is the symptom you see?

What program are you using, what operation are you performing, and what message do you get?

If you type this in the URL line, do you get Apple, Inc:

What is your network? Verify that you have the right AppleTalk setting, TCP/IP setting and then Remote Access settings. The exact error message is important to tell how far you have gotten in the connection process.

When you look in the TCP/IP Control Panel, what IP address have you been given by your Router using DHCP?

If it is 169.254.xxx.yyy, you are talking only to yourself.

The address should be similar, but not identical, to the addresses used by your other Macs.

Are you using a password?
• 40 bit, 128 bit?
• is the password being accepted OK?
Are you using an access list of hardware addresses?
Are you using encryption? {WPA, WEP, other}
• what wireless card are you using?
• what version of Airport software or other software are you using?

Just to be clear, we need to isolate the connection/wireless connection failure.

"a Netgear router, connected to my eMac via ethernet cable," That is hard wired. Where is the cable modem attached. Is it attached to the uplink port of the router? Does the router have an uplink?

The assumption is that the eMac is your base station and the PowerBook is connecting wirelessly with OS X. You are now trying to get the 1400 to do the same thing with OS 9. If the first two are connecting to the web and the 1400 will share files on you LAN, then can limit your search to TCP/IP issues. If the 1400 does not share files freely with both the emac and PB, then go back to the wireless connection issues.

According to Dell, the TrueMobile 1100 card uses the same windows driver as the Aironet PC4800, which is indeed similar to the cards Mac OS 9 Airport software would be expected to support.

Are you using the latest Airport software available for OS 9?

Airport is not an Application, it is a driver. If installed, you will find it:

System Folder > Extensions > Airport Driver

Are your other computers configured to connect via PPPoE?

the Powerbook 1400 could only go upto OS 8.6.
