I don't know if this will help...
-Open your Utilities folder and run Disk First Aid; if repairs are required, you may have to boot to a MacOS System CD to fix the problem.
-Have you tried copying the AirPort_2.0.2.smi.bin file over to the 1400, then unstuffing it?
-What wireless software are you currently using? I have read there can be a conflict between the installed wireless software and Apple's AirPort software. You said earlier you got wireless drivers; if you still have the installer, launch it and see if it has an uninstall option (uninstall it), then try installing AirPort software. If there is not an uninstall option, tell us where to get the wireless driver; I will install it on my Wallstreet while using the utility called Installer Observer, then report back to you what/where are the files to manually remove.
