Problem with Option GlobeSurfer iCon 7.2 software on Mac

Hi =)

I just purchased an Option GlobeSufer iCon 7.2 package from Orange (in Switzerland). The sotware installed correctly, however, I get an error message every single time I try to launch the software in order to connect to the Internet. The error message says: "The application GlobeTrotter Connect quit unexpectedly". It then offers the option to "Relaunch" or "Ignore" or "Report to Apple". Relaunching the application results in the same error message.

I did disable the PIN (using my mobile phone).

Is there any way to connect to the USB modem without using their software?

Any thoughts?

Thank you. Dominique

All,

Good News 🙂

The new version of the software has been released by option a few days ago.

It can be downloaded from their website : http://www.option.com/support/login.shtml

The only "problem" is that you have to enter your modem serial and IMEI numbers. It is used to authenticate you. In some cases your are not allowed to directly download the driver from their website and you have to contact your mobile operator.

In my case I had to contact my operator support (Mobistar in Belgium (Part of the Orange Group) and after a first try (they sent me a link to an hidden webpage where (very old (2005 😟 ) drivers where hosted), they sent me the installer by email.

It now works perfectly !

Enjoy !

Dear Frederic Mallefait could you pls be so kind and e-mail me this installer ??? My operator Orange Poland has no idea abt it and no support for Mac users. On the Option page I cannot D/L it as I`ve received the modem from operator and seems my SN and IMEI are registered as branded modem. Pls help me if it`s not a porblem to you ...

Frederic,

I'm having the same trouble in Greece. The iCon 7.2 is too new here and nobody can help me out. Not even the apple people have been able to help. I could also use a link and I'll bet there's more of us out there who need it. Could you pass it along to me as well? Or maybe give us the link here?

Thanks tons,
Vida

Another request for anyone out there who knows....

After reading this thread I went and uninstalled leopard and reinstalled tiger with the "erase and install" option to see if the modem would work on tiger. I have 10.4. Nothing happened. It still wouldn't work. The next day I went and downloaded the updates and it still didn't work. Now I'm using windows to get online. It works just fine, but I'm not working fine with windows... argh. Anyone know why it didn't work with tiger???

Thanks,
Vida

Hi Frederick,
I'm on Orange UK and their support team is clueless when it comes to this sort of thing. According to Option support, they have released the driver to Orange and only Orange can release it to their end users. Of course, no one at Orange knows anything about it. I would appreciate it if you (or anyone else on the forum) could email the Leopard driver to me.
Kind rgds,
kd

Hi Frederic,

I have the same problem, my device is from Orange UK who claim they know nothing about the new software and Option refuse to help because it is Orange branded.

If anyone has successfully obtained the new Leopard compatible software, can they post a link to the download site or if possible email me the dmg package or post it on here.

Many thanks

Chris

Hi All,

Until I can get a copy of the Globetrotter software from Orange UK (which could be some time, Orange customer support is appalling) (or until a very kind forum member will email it) it looked like I was stumped.

I have done a bit of searching and some trial and error and have found a work around if you cannot get Leopard to recognize your 3G device

First step is download the 'BigPond' updated software from this location. (It will install the entire suite including the connection application which can be removed afterwards.

http://bigpond.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/bigpond.cfg/php/enduser/stdadp.php?p_page=1&display=content&pfaqid=12192

This will allow the device to be recognized although it will still not work (internet connection cannot find it)

Second step is to download and install the Option Globetrotter Connect package from this location

http://www.option.com/support/globetrotterga/gadownloads.shtml

The site says its Version 1.2 and compatible with Leopard, but the package only has 'Panther' and 'Tiger' options.

Setup network connections with your service providers APN, username and password and Voila....

It worked for me, hope it does for you too....

Regards

Chris

This is a package that I received from Orange in Romania. It contains both a set of drivers for all Option modems and the GlobeTrotter application. It requires that you manually input your APN, so I think it is not provider-specific. Worth trying. It solved my problem. You can find it here:
