How do I get out of "iPod Diagnostics"?

I left my iPod off the charger last night. I don't know if that's the reason, but this morning, the screen only showed the Diagnostics screen. It's of some limited interest, but I guess it's really intended for technicians, which I am not.

(1) How do I get out of Diagnostics?

(2) Where can I find the total number of songs now on my iPod Nano?

MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core 2 DVD, Memory: 1 GB 667, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Hold the MENU and SELECT (center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset the iPod (this is how you exit diagnostics).

On the iPod, go to SETTINGS > ABOUT... You can see the number of songs there.

After posting my question, I put my iPod Nano back into the charger, where it's been until now. My problem now is that my iPod is dead, totally dead. By this I mean that the screen is black, and does not respond to anything I do. What now?

I explained how to reset the iPod already.

IT WORKED! I have to admit that I hadn't understood what you were talking about, mostly because I didn't properly understand the iPod dial before. I hadn't realized that the sections of the dial operate independently. I had thought that it was just a switch with five settings. In fact, not that it matters anymore, it seems to me that you were saying to find that part of the Diagnostics screen that said Reset and then to click on that. That's why I said that nothing could be done. After the screen turned black, there was no more Diagnostics screen to navigate. Anyway, thanks for your help. You not only helped me fix the problem, you've shown me more about how my iPod operates.
