Problem transferring iPod music to Computer

My hard drive went out before I could back up the music I had collected on it.
My iPod Nano 2Gig still has some of my most listened to music.
I have researched the instructions regarding transferring music from iPod to Mac, but it does not work for me.
the instructions say to open the iPod, drag the iTunes folder out on to the desktop.
However, the iPod does not show an iTunes folder when opened.
It does show calendar, games etc, but not iTunes or any songs at all.
Any ideas or help?

The iPod folder is hidden so you need to either use a command line instruction to unhide it or a utility such as Tinker Tool. However there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti which has already been mentioned above but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well.
