Is there an adapter to play my iPhone in my car?

When I was in the Apple store this weekend the did not have an adpater to play the iPhone in my car. I don't have the socket to plug my phoen into so I am guessing I would need a FM adapter. Does anyone make one? Does anyone else know of a better way? I don;t have a tape deck either.

There isnt any specific Iphone adapters for the car yet. But there Ipod adapters you can try, and some other options.

Depending on your car radio, if you have a CD changer/AUX input that isnt being used you can buy adapters to use the input for your Iphone. They make some for specific radios to Ipods or RCA inputs.

You can try the Ipod adapter and see if it works, or get one with regular RCA inputs and use your headphone output for audio to the adapter. You would need a headphone to RCA cable to plug from your Iphone to the adapter.

They have 2 types of FM modulators, one is inline/wired and the other is wireless. Wireless will 9 times out of 10 have alot of static. Wired will be a clearer but may still have some static at times. The wired version will also have RCA inputs, so you will need the headphone to RCA cable for it also.

You can get either of these at a local Circuit City or Best Buy. They use the inline/wired FM mods for mobile video and Sat Radio. And also carry the Radio specific AUX inputs for the same thing.

Here are some examples:

Wired FM mod with RCA inputs

They also have adpaters for JVC, Pioneer, and Alpine aftermarket radios.

Hope this helps!

I plugged my iPhone into my Clarion iPod connector tonight just to see if it worked, it came up with some message about this not being an approved iPhone accessory and left it for a moment while I did something else, all of a sudden I heard music coming out of my car stereo, I looked at the screen and it had a white screen with "Connected to iPod" on and even more strange was that my clarion had only ever played tunes if they were in folders called "clarion1" "clarion2" etc which had always been a pain! But there it was, working in all it's glory, all albums - with track titles, Working 🙂

Plus, even better, someone called me, and the music faded smoothly and i pressed the answer button on my jawbone bluetooth headset and the call was tranferred to my headset with the sound on the car radio muted 🙂 🙂 what more could i ask for!

Oh actually, one more thing 😉 it also charges it!

I use my iPhone Dock. My car has a 1/4" jack, but it won't fit in my headphone port without an adapter. I have a USB to 12v adapter that plugs in the cigarette lighter, and the 1/4" jack plugs into the line out, so any time I put my iPhone in the dock in my car, not only does it play, but it charges. All this is mounted inside my console. It doesn't ask for anything about the airplane mode, but then again, I am only giving it power, not really any other input.

I have good news! Griffin have just released the first official FM transmitter for the iPhone. It's the iTrip Auto ( http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itripauto). It's on it's way to my now (in the UK) so I'll let know how I get on once it arrives.

On another note, I just bought a dock from Brodit ( http://www.brodit.com/montering.jsp?anr=875168) and it's excellent. I can't recommend it highly enough. The fit for the iPhone is superb and it also good great in the car.

Apologies... I linked to the wrong product. The one that has been certified for the iPhone is the iTrip Auto Smartscan (http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/itripautosmartscan). The website does not mention it but I have emails from the sales and support staff to confirm that the iPhone is supported with this product. I just checked my courier tracking link and it's arrived in the UK today so if I'm lucky I might even get it tomorrow! I'll let you all know how I get on.
