I've been told by AT&T CSRs that the Edge network has been down since the afternoon of Feb. 16, and they have no idea when it will be back up. One thing I'm not clear on -- this looks to be a bigger problem for iPhone users with Go Phone accounts -- like me -- as opposed to those with regular accounts. I'm curious about that -- if you're still able to connect to Edge, which kind of account do you have?

Do you know if the entire data network went down - including at&t's 3G network or the EDGE network in certain areas only?

I accessed the EDGE network for several hours after lunch yesterday where I live so at&t's entire EDGE network was not down.

RIM's entire network goes down and all Blackberry customers are without email by any means.

I spoke to a AT&T rep this morning who confided in me that it was mostly Go phone iphone customers who were the issue. Apparently whatever servers they use to authenticate these phones to the data network and allow internet access arent working. So if you have a standard service agreement phone you should be fine. Its just us go phone iphoners that are out of luck. They have no ETA for fixing this, which is kind of scary. If you call up and complain they may be willing to refund you since its been going on since saturday now and you prepaid for the service. If enough go phone people do this they might speed up their fix of the issue.

Two more calls to AT&T this morning, one to a CSR who had no idea about the outage -- and transfered me to Apple support even after I told her the phone wasn't the problem -- and one to another CSR who was very apologetic but still had no idea when this problem would cease.

That was enough. I stopped by the local AT&T store at lunch, handed over a deposit and will be switched to a post-pay account as soon as I get home and sync the phone. I'll let y'all know how it goes.
