I have a current version of Carbon Copy Cloner and I wonder if it will clone a G3 OS 9.2.2 to another G3 partition? Otherwise, what would be the technique? Thanks a lot!

You can copy OS9 simply by drag and drop. CCC is an OS X app; it would work for copying an OS9 partition if you were running OS X, but it's not needed.
hmmm, I have heard over and over that simple drag and drop is NOT bootable!?
You did not say that you wanted to end up with an OS 9 Bootable partition.
To do that, you can either use CarbonCopyCloner or Drag and Drop, but when finished, you must be sure that the "Blessed Folder" (containing System and Finder) can be found by the boot-up code.
To Bless an OS 9 System Folder:
Drag the file "System" into another folder or onto the Desktop.
Drag the file "Finder" to the same location.
Select both files together and drop them into the System Folder you want to bless.
If working in Mac OS 9, a System Folder that has been blessed will have a special Icon resembling either a Mac SE or interlocking faces.
One more bizarre tidbit about CarbonCopyCloner and Mac OS 9. My experiments indicate that you can clone a Mac OS 9 disk onto an existing Mac OS X 10.3.9 disk and not clobber anything -- both 9 and X are functional afterward on the combined volume.

So it looks like the easy way is "cloner", yes?
I have version 2.3
I have version 2.3
Both are easy, both may require you to Bless the Mac OS 9 System Folder afterward.
You will be happier using the tools that are most familiar to you.
I revised my previous post, just as your post came up -- be sure to re-read.

HI, Steve -
The last four or five OS 9's I installed were by means of drag and drop (while booted to OS 9) from the main internal drive, either to a secondary internal drive or to external firewire drives. In each instance the OS 9 was immediately bootable with no tweaking required.

Please let me be sure of your little technique here. First you copy over the active or good OS 9 to the blank or "new" partition. Then on the NEW partition, you have to do that bless procedure, that is, go back to the source or original OS 9 and finder, pull that original system folder and finder onto the desktop, and then drag those together into the new system folder of the NEW partition? Sounds like all you are doing is dragging the stuff over twice but with a stop along the way.
Anyway thanks a lot for helping.

You could also you the OS9 version of Apple Software Restore it worked well for me in my os9 days.

...pull that original system folder and finder onto the desktop, and then drag those together into the new system folder of the NEW partition?
No.
To bless or rebless an OS 9 System Folder, drag the file Finder and the file System out of that System Folder and onto the desktop. Close the System Folder. Then drop the file Finder and the file System back into the closed System Folder. Doing so forces the running OS to recognize that System Folder as a valid one.
