Spotlight died on me

I like the new Spotlight, I even threw out Quicksilver. The trouble is that Spotlight has just died on me. The icon is still there but it does nothing. Does anybody know how to restart it without restarting the whole OS?

Sorry that didn't work for you, David. Let us know what happens with a total backup and restore. That's what worked for me.

The small downside for me was that I had to run fix permissions afterwards to fix 15,000 files, and iTunes said I needed to authorize my machine again. And indexing started again.

Erasing the hard drive and reinstalling backed up files and applications has worked, although I'm still straightening out authorization and preferences for all sorts of applications.

Pretty extreme fix - but maybe it won't happen again.

That's what worked for me too. It is sort of a brute force method. But so far, Search has worked correctly since.
