I'm a newbie to the mac world but have been using my IPhone and loving it. However when I plugged in the Iphone to my new IMac I get this:
Itunes could not sync calendars to the iPhone because an error occurred while merging data.
I started getting that same message a few weeks ago on my PC, but just figured it was because of a soon to be replaced pc was...well soon to be replaced. Any thoughts?
Just wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I too am in mingling/merging **** between my Mac at home and my Outlook at work. Not sure if Leopard is the problem, but I don't recall any problems with Tiger.
I was hoping the iPhone could handle calendars. In fact, that was the "killer app" for me. It's the 21st century and I can't sync two calendars together - forget the flying cars!
Not everyone has the ability to use a Mac at work - the world runs on Outlook.
After $400 for the phone and $130 for Leopard, still no todos, still no notes, still no multiple calendars with colors, still no Outlook to iCal syncing for me.
Interesting... I just found 3 events in my calendar that have no title. They are almost a year into the future and there were 3 entries on the same day. The events are read only on my iPhone - which for me means they are part of my Outlook calendar (don't know why).
I'll delete them from my Outlook calendar and report back.
Sine there were three entries for this non-titled event, this is leading me to believe that it has something to do with my Birthday calendars. Outlook and ICal through my iPhone simply cannot agree on how to handle my Birthday calendar and often result in duplicated or triplicated entires.
I have removed my untitled events from my iCal and Outlook calendars. I have been through several "reset sync history" button pressing routines.
No luck. My calendars still will not merge.
Is something wrong with iCal on Leopard?
What do you do if you own an iPhone, a Mac, and you have a typical professional job? I would say a typical professional job means you use Outlook on a daily basis.
I followed up the last experiment with a "what the heck" approach and just deleted all my calendars on iCal. If I can't sync with my mac - why use iCal anyway right?
Even after that, even after deleting everything except "Birthdays" (which I can't delete), I still have no luck "merging" my calendars during sync.
A quick troubleshooting step that may resolve some of your problems. If iphoto tries to open whaen you connect your iphone. Then your computer is reading your iphone as a camera not a phone. This can be turned off by going into Image Capture on Mac or Win go to Scanners and Cameras right click on iphone/properties go to the events tab and check take no action. Save and close. Restart computer and attempt to resync. Hope this helps some of you.
I am in the same boat. Try resetting sync history. Looked for (none) empyt title events (list view in outlook).
I went (attempted) to go a step further and delete the outlook calendar in iCal... Bad idea -- it tried to send a message to everybody I had appointement with for the past 5 years that I declined the invitation... (I wish there was a way to delete a calendar without sending notice to all people in it).
I am at lost -- I don't know what else to do...
Yes, this was working before Leopard upgrade...
And with every failed attempt to merge -- it also adds on my banner in outlook dups for the "day long" (or several day long) events...
I am so frustrated -- I am outlook calendar is now starting to also get bad because of this...
APPLE -- if you are around -- you need to do something about this. It is BROKEN !!!
Anyone luck out and find a solution? I'm still broken. I did find that if I deleted my /Users/<username>/Library/Calendars directory
and I deleted my iPhone backup in iTunes
and reset my sync history, I could get all my calendar items from my iPhone to iCal
except for any calendar item I created on my iPhone. This action is still reports the "merging data" problem.
Still broken, but at least I got some data to move in some direction.
