Upgraded to WD2500BEVS Hard drive, makes clicking noise..

Hey,

I recently upgrade my hard drive in my macbook to a WD 250GB SATA drive.

the problem I'm having is that every few seconds of inactivity the hard drive sounds like it 'parks' it's head.

The SMART status of the drive is verified.

Apparently this is the solution :

But I'm obviosoly on a mac running osx with no floppy drive, so does anyone know how to apply that patch? Thanks.

I don't have any place to host the file, but I'll email you if you provide me an email.
It's not difficult to compile it yourself, install Xcode to get the compiler, edit in the source folder declunk.c, exchange in the interval line (86) the 5 for a 4.
Now in Terminal go to the source folder and type "make", you are ready to install by double-clicking install.command.

Well I finally got the drive into my Macbook, and it's silent, all the time. Really weird but I get nothing at all from it. Here are the specs exactly.

WDC WD2500BEVS-60UST0
Revision: 01.01A01

How does this compare to you guys? Granted I've only had the drive in since last night, but I used it pretty extensively and no noise. (Am I just inviting a problem here or what? lol) This was a fresh format clean install of Leopard, btw.

Modelo: WDC WD2500BEVS-22UST0
Revisión: 01.01A01

Mine was an external Passport unit, till I got it into the MacBook Pro.

I've read about other different hard disks making the clicking noise in Leopard. Maybe something has changed in APM.

So there is a difference in our drives, at least a slight difference in the model #'s. Mine was straight up off the shelf drive, no external case. Wonder what Ron's was above.

I'm having the same problem and mine HDD is also:

I installed the 'declunk' app mentioned above with succes and finally got rid of the clicking sound, but I hope WD or Apple come up with a more permanent solution.

I don't know, I ordered just the HD through a webstore in Holland and build it into my Macbook Pro. Not sure if this HD-drive comes as a external sata package.

So it seems to be an issue with that particular part then, not the model over all, as by this point I'm fairly certain it's not effecting me. Interesting to say the least. Here is another question, does it have the click issue if it's in the external case? I can't understand why that would matter, but it's worth a shot.

François' one is not external, so it's not external related.
I'll let Ron take it out, to test it :S
It's a pretty mess taking it in/out on the MacBook Pro.
