Mac OS Startup Logo in System 7.1

Do it possible to have the Mac OS Startup Logo(like Mac os 7.5.3 or System 8)on the System 7.1?

And i ave a macintosh LC 575 but if i start-up with the System 7.5 (Any drives or boot floppy), i get a Bus Error. If i start with the Disk Tools 8.0, it start-up normally but if i install the system 8, i get the Bus Error on the Start-up. i just can start-up with the System 7.1. i have try to start-up without extensions but it doesn't work. the Bus Error(Bomb) Appear when the "Welcome To Macintosh" Box Appear.

Thank You

Hello Thomas i dont believe you can install 7.1 on a 575 without an enabler 065. and you may get an error if you dont have it. on the 7.5 installation it may be possible that your system 7.5 installation is corrupted.

You may also check that the disk has no corruptions with Disk First Aid and that it has an updated hard disk driver.

One of the forgotten and earliest hacks of the mac systems was that you could create a customized "Startup Screen" file. It is a resource fork file which stores a PICT resource. The file needs to be designated a file type SCRN and the picture resource needs to have ID 0

Its what you call a ResEdit Hack. But i believe old versions of Photoshop let you save this file formats.

If you need something clarified dont hesitate to ask

ok its fairly easy. i guess with some guidance.

you start by going to your favorite image program and selecting the image you want as a startup logo. I suggest the image is 72dpi at most because there could be problems if the image is too big, also keep the image size the same size as your resolution in other words if your screen is 640x480 keep the image that size no larger. The image you copy needs to be in a bitmap PICT format wich is the raw bitmap format of image copying in most older macs. One more thing the image can only be up to 8bit format. orit will be seriously distorted.

ok here we go. After checking all the above, Go ahead and select your image with the marqee tool and copy it to the clipboard.

Fire up ResEdit and start by creating a new document. Name it "StarupScreen" (no space) and save it inside your System Folder.

The next thing you need to do is paste the picture in to the window that shows up.

You will see a little icon of a house and paint brush double click it and you will se your picture.

Now we have to change the default ID from 128 to 0.

Make sure your picture is selected and go to the Resource menu and select Get Resource Info. Change the ID from 128 to 0.

one last thing you have to do is to edit the file type designation for that file.
Go to the file menu and select Get Info for startup screen. Change the Type: to SCRN and close and save.

Close ResEdit and restart to test it out
