Keyboard randomly stops working after Leopard Install

Hey Everyone.. I see a few threads already but after installing Leopard my keybaord randomly just stops working.. The trackpad works fine but the keyboard goes completely dead.. Caps lock light is unresponsive.. I have found covering the speakers makes the backlights come on etc but does not effect the keyboard starting to work etc.

Apple.. There are multiple people talking about this.. FIX THIS.. I have 4 aftermarket apps on here.. Firefox, Adium, MS Office and VMware Fusion.. If one of these is the cause then ill remove them but i highly doubt it sooo..

Has anyone found a fix for this yet or have any ideas on how to fix it??

Its extremely annoying to go to type something and the keyboard in your 2500 dollar computer does not work...

I installed the software update and used my MBP 17" over my holiday vacation. Everything worked great until last night. I walked from my kitchen to my home office and used the MBP for about an hour, then plugged a new keyboard into it.. used it for about 30 minutes and then unplugged the keyboard... NOTHING on the MBP worked AGAIN!!

No keyboard, no trackpad... no nothing....

(sigh)

So what do we do now people.. time to start thinking about our options to communicate with Apple.

There are more people who have this situation where pressure applied to a certain spot on the laptop solves the mistery problem with the keyboard. So I am just updating here that that certain solution worked for me. At first it did nothing but when a few days later I tried again it actually worked.

I am not sure its because of the battery. I haven't been using the faulty battery now for over two months and the problem just happened to me after Leopard installed and the latest updates. It must be hardware though looking at the solution. Since the keyboard problem is so typical for Macbooks being thin laptops I would not be surprised its mostly hardware related and the typical thin design of the Apple Macbook. I don't hear about it so much with the Macbooks, It seems a typical Macbook Pro problem. I think Apple is working on it software wise but is dealing for a portion of its users with something that need attention at the repairshop. Its not a faulty battery problem perse, it could even have nothing to do with the battery but just with the laptop design and the area that is pressured when solving the problem. Hope I helped Apple solving the problem for some users. This is at least my data. I know some posters who also don't have a solution know exactly what it is not.....

Just to say that my theory about a suspended VM doesn't bear out. Neither does pressure applied to just about all points on the casing. The left caps key just starts (and stops) working again without any apparent reason during typing. Back to square one. Another theory might be heat on the left-hand side, which however, is apparently normal. Makes me wonder whether I shouldn't have stayed with a Windows PC in spite of Vista.

if your problems persist after a clean install from the Leopard CD and updated then I would bring the Macbook Pro to the dealer or back to Apple for repair. I think because it somehow feels a like a Leopard problem some are waiting to send their Macbooks to the repair shop.
It could as well be hardware related. The fact is that most Macbook Pro owners don't have this typical problem as my friends and others I ask do not have any problem at all. I get a strong feeling that this is less of a Leopard problem than we think. Maybe also why the update by Apple did not work out for so many.

Hope Apple will acknowledge the problem hard or software wise and help out by repairs or new updates and proper information so that we no longer are on our own on this.

Fun, the update solved my problem (keyboard not working after I put the computer to sleep) and now i have another problem.

Two days ago, I restarted my computer and I had to have Caps-lock AND Num-lock lit up to use my keyboard normally. Also sometimes my delete button does not work at random moments.
And still in the "after sleep" chapter, sometimes the computer wakes up but neither the mouse nor the keyboard work and won't start working even if I hold down a key of the keyboard for some time.

Apple disappointed me big time with this MBP, from the shipment to the product itself.

I would love to know experiences with Macbook Pro owners who brought their Macbook to a certified Apple repair service.

As I see here only do it yourself type of frustrations I would imagine the majority of owners just had their laptop repaired and I suppose those Macbooks work ok now.

I smile when I read about going to the press. Obviously editors are not interested in a few Macbook owners (10% marketshare in the laptop world and then probably 0,5 % Macbook owners who experience trouble with their keyboards, that is still thousands though but no news yet...).

The only route that is going to upset Apple is getting back thousands of Macbooks so lets send them in, they made these wonderful laptops, so let them get to the problem first. I don't think you will get your laptop back with the statement that its is normal for the keyboard not to function. My experience with Apple is that a machine that does not work is repaired or replaced.

And to add to that, my Macbook Pro Intel Duo core needs to be pushed above the trackpad every day once and then it works fine. So for those that think all Macbooks Pro's suffer from something caused by Leopard they can find some relieve my Macbook Pro works like a dream without any keyboard disfunctionality other than the hardware problem that I have solved for the time being. I will bring my Macbook Pro back to the dealer so they can properly repair it. Just now I had to press my Macbook again to get the spacebar to work....lol.
