UK 02 (poor signal strength/reception problems)

My iphone can barely pick up even the slightest signal, although on occasion can pick up 3 ars, only for it to drop out again. I have two other 02 phones, a Sony Erricson and a Nokia n95 with no reception problems at all.

Is anyone experiencing same problem with their iphone, I would like to hear from you.

I have just spoken to a helpful guy at o2 who is referring the poor reception problems directly to Apple, it is therefore very important to keep writing here with our experiences of the iphone reception. I continue to get fantastic reception until i enter a house, then it almost vanishes, but outside in the garden or outside generally its fine. i have visited a number of friends homes and no matter the house I enter, guaranteed the reception is effected.

New phone new problems it is to be expected but it will only be resolved if enough of us report the issues and problems we are having.

Thank you and please keep the comments coming, the guy at o2 is referring the Apple tech guys to this discussion.

cheers

I moved from Vodafone to O2 last month just to give the network a try before I committed to the iPhone. My Sony Ericsson M600i got low to medium signal with Vodafone, and medium to high with O2. Now I have my iPhone on O2 I'm getting between no signal and medium strength. This is at home.

In an EDGE area today I actually found pages loaded quickly and reliably using the iPhone. This is in great contrast to 3G on Vodafone, where most of the time pages wouldn't load at all on the M600i.

So, it's a mixed bag for me.

Hi All. Just to let you know I have the same problem, My old phone (Nokia ) had no signal problems at all.Now if I can get 2 bars up thats it. Been into apple and they told for my own piece of mind they will swap phone under the 14 day return policy just in case I have a bad phone. The guy at apple says I was the first person that has reported a reception problem.......
Any Thoughts !!!!!

No problems here, get two bars at home which is two more then my other phones I had on Vodafone and T-Mobile....Milton Keynes gave me 5 bars full with Edge, Work in Telford is 5 bars with Edge whilst 2 on Vodafone and nothing on T-mobile...

If anything this is better for me than any other phone...But ofcourse these are not phone but network experiences...

I am having the same problem - live in central London and cannot get a signal. Called o2 on Sunday and they said that it could take up to 24 hours to delevlop a full signal (??). Went to work in Luton on Monday and same problem. Called o2 and after some basic checks they are confident that it is a problem with the phone reception. Try your bluetooth connection - it is unlikely to work - the phone cannot detect any signal. The o2 guy told me that there is a 14 day EXCHANGE policy on any faulty iPhones (I also believe you are entitled to a 14 day cooling off period with this type of new contract). I got the impression that mine was not the first call on this issue. Will try to replace tomorrow.

DO NOT ACCEPT a repair! Your product is simply not fit for purpose and this overrules and of their terms or conditions.

I have a friend in Cyprus and his phone has the same fault! Who do we blame?

I will also contact o2 for a partial refund on my monthly fee.

Hi Charles. You are spot on bluetooth not working can't get no connection. do I understand you will try to replace the phone tomorrow, if so will you let me know how things go. I may be replacing mine on saturday. You are right that apple are selling a product that can't do what it was designed for. Its a shame because the phone has a lot of good points.
Keep in touch...

Regards bobby

Don't you think it is a bit strong to state that Apple are selling a product that can't do what it was designed for!? Sure defects happen, and for electronics without moving parts they tend to happen in the beginning of their lifecycle, but to call all the iPhone unfit for purposes is just plain ridiculous with millions of happy users...

I've noticed that the my iPhone does seem slightly more 'deaf' than some of my previous O2 handsets but I have also noticed that the signal strength meter reads inaccurately low. My previous phones could often not make calls reliably with less than 2 bars (as expected) yet the iPhone is often happy with 1 or even none and still has good data links with EDGE.

I have been working today in an office where my previous O2 phones had trouble with little or no signal and the iPhone performed about the same.
