3rd generation nano frozen and won't reset

I have a 3rd generation nano, that is about 3 weeks old. It is frozen and it won't reset. I've reset before with no problem, but for some reason it won't reset anymore. Any tips?

Laura,
For the itunes not reconizing the ipod. Sometimes if you let your ipod go totally dead, it takes about 30 minutes or more for the itunes to actually identify the ipod itself
As for the black screen, you could try toggling the hold button and see what happenes. After hold down the menu and center button. Also you could try holding down the select/playbutton. This should automatically force your ipod into play mode.
As for anything else, i'm not quite sure
hope these little tips helps you out! it's more or less repeating what it says above, but it kinda helped me so 🙂 goodluck

You are NOT alone. Many are having this problem, and it's not yet resolved. Suggest you keep track of (subscribe to) the following topics currently in the forum, plus others that may show up:

I've successfully reverted to 1.0.1 using information in the Mac OS thread. Go to:
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1213. It has all the guidance you need to revert to 1.0.1. Below is part of my recent post within that thread.

"I downloaded the two 1.0.1 files (iPod_26.1.0.1.ipsw" and "iPod_26.1.0.1.ipsw.signature) provided on this thread by "Alain Claude Cl..." ( http://discussions.apple.com/profile.jspa?userID=1036653). Many thanks Alain. I followed his instructions, also in this thread, for installing them. I also found the posts from "sottil" ( http://discussions.apple.com/profile.jspa?userID=1033843 ) to be extremely helpful.

Thanks to everyone in the thread who kept this topic going. Until Apple gets its act together and issues 1.0.3 or 1.0.2.1 or whatever, the only solution is to revert to 1.0.1 following the guidance in this thread.

May not be particularly helpful in this case, but I could have sworn my iPod was totally and hopelessly locked up when it last froze and wouldn't reset. I Googled for a solution, and someone mentioned flipping the Hold switch on and off. It was then that I realized that my Hold was still on. Flipping Hold off unfroze my iPod's buttons and allowed me to reset it. Now it's working fine again. 🙂

Hope it helps someone 😉

I had the problem with my 3G Nano where the iPod would be stuck in a resetting cycle: black screen, backlight on, Apple logo appears, black screen...

Resetting by toggling the hold switch and holding down Menu/Select did not break it out of this cycle.

Resetting while connected to iTunes eventually produced an error "iTunes cannot recognize this iPod at this time". The linked support document suggested resetting the iPod.

What did work for me: Connect the iPod to the computer and launch iTunes. Toggle the hold switch and hold down Menu/Select to reset the device. As soon as the screen goes black, hold down Play/Select to force it into Disk Mode. It should then appear in iTunes, and you can select Restore to reset it to its factory settings.

I hope this helps.
