It wasn't until I read this thread that I really paid much attention to noises and "pops" coming from the left side. Not to say I've never heard any noises, just nothing that alarmed and/or annoyed me. There's times I have low music on and times I sit in quiet, but more so with music or with other sounds.
I believe what I hear is:

My "pops" happen at about the same intervals and I really have to listen to hear them most of the time. Like I said, this thread really brought them to my fullest attention.
One thing though, when I was listening to the sound file above (at full volume): Are people actually hearing the high pitched "titinitus" like sounds that go on forever starting about midway in the file? Or did these sounds come about from the recording process somehow? I didn't notice anybody describe as such, just "high pitched pops". Because
this would drive me crazy +for sure+ if my MBP was doing that. I couldn't go near it then. All I hear from mine is some subtle gear like movements and sounds like the pops in that file, only they seem far less pronounced.
So it's not a problem for me at all, there's no painful or irritating noises that are loud enough to distract me. My hearing is usually sensitive to such things, or at least that's what I always thought. It just sounds like normal operations in there. This is my first portable computer, bought it in May so I can't compare my experience with my MBP to other portables, Mac or otherwise. When I do take note of these subtle noises, I just figure it's due to closer proximity, as in more so than when I'm sitting in front of my desktop, which is an iMac G4.
