IMAP command “UID COPY” (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox.

I just installed Leopard and get the following message when deleting mail *"The IMAP command “UID COPY” (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox “INBOX” with server error: UID COPY failed Deleted Messages: no such mailbox.*" However, my preferences have been also set to delete from all mailboxes when I "delete" mail. Help!

I got the same message when I tried to delete messages from my AOL inbox in Mail.

My install was an upgrade from 10.4. I have several email accounts set up in Mail. I only tried to delete messages from the AOL one. The others are hosted on Earthlink.

I verified permissions using Disk Utility, but no issues were found.

Any advice?

Except that this worked just fine in mail on tiger. I have all the folders set to server (trash, sent etc). Tiger mail - fine. Leopard mail - warning triangles (folder not found or needs to be subscribed) and deleting gives this error.

It seems that server side sync of IMAP is not as well supported in Mail 3 as it was in the previous version 😟

Setting things local seems to be a useable workaround - but I really hope they fix it for server side too.

I solved the problem for my own IMAP account, proceed at your own risk. ha

I use DreamHost.com for my IMAP server and they have a good Wiki on how to set-up Mail.app for IMAP here http://wiki.dreamhost.com/MacOS_X_Mail10.4

The key was to specify an IMAP Path Prefix as INBOX. This solved the mail delete problem and created some new mailboxes on the mailbox pane on the left of the Mail.app window at the bottom that has my old-messages and Trash.

What I did also via Webmail was to create a sub-folder of my inbox called *Archived Notes* so that I can email myself old notes from my iPhone for safe storage. I just drag-n-drop my old notes from my INBOX to the Archived Notes mailbox in Mail.app then I can delete the note from my iPhone's Notes app.

If I go to my Webmail or iPhone Mail I have my INBOX with the sub-folders: Archived Notes, Deleted Messages, Junk, old-messaqes, Trash. This is all accessible via my mail clients. Keeps my mailbox tidy, gives me access to deleted Notes from my iPhone and things seem to be running fine.

When you do this don't be alarmed when your mail disappears from your inbox in Mail.app as they will reappear as it says in the DreamHost Wiki.

Hope that helps.

To all who responded to my question...thanks. However, after 2 trips to the Apple Store and 3 "genius" working on Mail for over 8 hours I decided to systematically analyze and work on the problem. The genius failed on this one!!! HERE IS THE SOLUTION THAT WORKED!!! To use my AOL server after installing Leopard I had to have different post numbers for IMAP and SMTP. IMAP seems to like 993 and SMTP like what AOL recommends, which is 587. The ADVANCED setting for SMTP is different from that for IMAP; "click" on the arrows by SMTP and the "edit," that opens up your settings for SMTP, insert 587.

If you are having problems with deletions, I have not figured that one out yet. As a compromise, rather that "delete," which does not work, instead I "junk" mail that I wish to delete. Then I empty my "junk."

IMAP command “UID COPY” (to Deleted Messages) failed for the mailbox.
