How to unlock folders on an external HD

Hi all,
Several folders on my western digital "My Book" External HD are locked (Videos, My Pictures, etc.) and for some reason I cannot unlock them by clicking info-unlock....any suggestions? I read somewhere else that I need to have administrative privileges and other things, but I tried using their suggestions and nothing has worked. thanks!

I have just discovered that this has happened to the music folder on my external HD...

Unfortunately, i do not have access to a PC to use the DOS fix.

Does this mean i'm gonna have to go and find a friend with a PC to fix my HD? I can just hear the "told you so" laughter when I tell them I need their PC to fix something my Mac cannot.

Could it have something to do with letting iTunes organize the folder?

Same here... Using the WD Mybook external harddrive disc. I can't lock or unlock folders on that drive and it locked my music folder and set it to read only without my assistance. I wonder wether they will fix this problem with the next major update as many people strugle with it.
I don't wanna install Xp just to set the permissions straight.
I guess it's a problem with Leopard and iTunes.

cheers

If you are seeing folders with the red circle and minus sign on them, it is a permissions issue. The files in question are owned by another user account than the one you are trying to access them with. This is especially true if you copied any part of a user's home directory because the default permission for most home directory folders is R&W for the owner and no access for everyone else. If you're using the drive only on Macs, the drive format should be set to Mac OS Extended Journaled. Then you will have the option to "ignore ownership on this volume" like someone else suggested and you will have full access to everything on the drive no matter who the owner is.

Hey, thanks for your reply!
I just copied my music folder which i used on Windows onto my Mybook HDD and connected it to my MBP. I don't see those red circles, it's just locked.
The folder was unlocked at first but this changed when iTunes started to organise my files. So i copied all the music to a new folder and imported it into iTunes. It works fine and without locking my new music folder. Unfortunatly, i cannot delete the former locked music folder which would save loads of space... (it asks my wether i want to delete, i press yes, it playes the trash sound, but it is still on my HDD)

I wonder how to set my drive to Mac OS Extended Journaled though. Never seen that option... :<

I want:

1. to delete this folder
2. I want OSX to work properly with my HDD (un/locking files still doesn't work)
3. iTunes not to lock my music folder so that the music management works decently.

I guess it might be the fault of WD but Apple should be able to fix that.

greetings
