importing .amr files into itunes

I have a few audio files that I recorded with my Sony Ericcson W810i that are .amr files. How do I get these into my iTunes library? I tried changing the ending to .mp3 and when I clicked on them it opened up itunes but the file didn't play nor did it show up in my library.
