ERROR MESSAGE "The Ipod cannot be synced! The required disk cannot be found"
This happens to all three 2g shuffles, ever since iTunes was updated to 7.5.0.20!
Had them checked at a service center, they were fine. De and re-installed iTunes at least 5 times to no avail. I have been on this for 48 hours and have little hair left.
For those who find that unplugging/replugging their mouse solves this, you should be able to achieve the same thing by creating a file called (eg) fix.bat containing the line below:
devcon rescan
Just run that file when iTunes is trying to sync and it should allow the sync to continue. Marginally more convenient than unplugging your mouse.
I have three iPods. The newest one (iPod Classic) was getting the "The Ipod cannot be synced! The required disk cannot be found" error message. As it turns out, when I connected my new iPod Classic to iTunes, "Enable Disk Use" on the Summary page was not checked.
Solution I: When you connect your iPod to iTunes, look at the Summary page. Is "Enable Disk Use" checked? If not, check it. You may have to eject your iPod, close iTunes, reopen iTunes, and reconnect your iPod. Try it. It may be that simple.
Solution II: This is from another user "Endareth". I followed Endareth's steps and I no longer get the "dreaded" message:
Follow these steps exactly and you should have an iPod free from the dreaded "Disk not available" error! Please note that I've only encountered this problem on my iPod Shuffle (2nd Gen), so have only been able to confirm this working on that.
To begin with, ensure iTunes is not running, and your iPod is not connected. Make sure you read through the following steps before your begin.
1. Run "c:\WINDOWS\system32\devmgmt.msc" (this is the Device Manager), this will need to be used later, but you'll need it quickly when you do.
2. Start iTunes.
3. Connect iPod.
4. Go to your iPod Settings and select "Enable disk use".
5. A dialog box will pop up reminding you that you'll need to manually eject. Hit OK.
6. Hit Apply to save changes to the iPod.
7. Quickly switch to Device Manager window and right-click on any item there and select "Scan for hardware changes".
8. Switch back to iTunes, where you should have a nice, working iPod!
I tried a different USB port. Heard the two-tone sound of recognition by my PC of a new piece of hardware. (Realized I had not heard that on the first USB port). Synced. It worked.
