Airport Extreme Base Station 802.11g and External storage over ethernet

I have recently upgraded my network to use the 'new' airport extreme base station (AEBS)...

Is that the square 802.11b/g/n AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS)?

My main problem is that I cannot view the disk capacity & free space on my external drive using disk utility or any other Apple software that I have tried.

Disk Utility would only work with drives connected directly to the Mac.

Doesn't the Finder indicate the amount of space used and free?

With the disk connected via Ethernet you may need to use the utilities provided with the drive.

yes this is the square 802.11g/n AEBS. Understand about Disk Utility. Finder shows the EDmini drive under AFP & SMB: when I 'Get Info' it shows a small window that contains purely descriptive info but I could not see how to query capacity.

I have checked the drive details LaCie 500GB Ethernet mini. The drive utilities crash under Leopard maybe I will have to contact Lacie.

I downloaded an update IP Configurator from www.lacie.com; it didn't crash this time and I can administer the drive from the web page-based admin system. Still unable to see anything via Finder, but it will do.

Thanks for the response...
I kept thinking I did not do the correct setup for the NAS and therefore was unable to view through the AEBS.

I can't tell you how great it is to find answers via these discussion boards! I'm a newbiw iMac owner (previously used windows) and I'll never go back to microsoft!

Can anyone help me on this issue??

I have recently purchased an airport extreme base station (Gigabit) AND a Lacie Network Ethernet Big Disk (1T).

I have followed the instructions of connecting the Lacie Ethernet disk by ethernet cable to the Extreme base station. My iMac does NOT pick it up AND when I try and run the IP Configurator software provided by Lacie the application keeps crashing!!!!

Can anyone assist?? As a recently converted Mac user, Im not that sure of what I could do/try etc!!!!

Thanks Clive - I actually downloaded the updated IP Configurator also and it was stable. Problem was that when it had completed its install and indicated that it "was successful", the ethernet Big Disk did not appear and therefore I was unable to connect to it!
