Question

No audio when converting video for ipod 3rd generation

I read a thread that had not be answered regarding video to ipod that ends up with no sound. I wonder if anyone has found the answer to the problem. I have converted movies from imovie 08 and had no problems with sound but when I tried to convert a downloaded music video I only get the video and no sound.

Anyone have the answer to that one?

Hey! I had the exact same problem with two of my videos. They are just small youtube vids from the internet. I have about eight on the ipod, but two are completely silent both in itunes and the ipod.

Help?

I'm having the same issue; video w/o sound. My videos have also ended up in the 'Movies' folder on my nano, and I can't seem to put them into the 'Music Videos' folder; I can't just drag and drop.

Ok i think i got it... this worked for me. I downloaded a free converter from http://ivcsoft.free.fr/index.php?2007/06/25/24-download-ivc-telecharger-ivc and i converted the files that i downloaded off of YouTube from whatever format that was to the Quicktime (mov.) format and dragged the converted video into my itunes and it synced perfectly.

QuickTime expects video files with separate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, when you convert videos in iTunes to iPod format they only show the video and no sound since iTunes (really QuickTime) is not looking for the audio track within the video track and it gets lost.

One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...
