Uninstall Safari 3 and get Safari 2?

I downloaded 10.4.11 and we all know Safari 3 is having some problems. Dont know when apple plans to fix them but i want to go back to Safari 2? How would i go ahead and do so? Would 10.4.11 still be there? My pages are comming out a little strange with the new Safari 3. thanks!

The biggest problem for me is many javascripts will not display. I build websites and use scripts that rotate jpg images. These will not show up in Safari 3, but will in Firefox, IE, etc. You should not be forced to install a beta version of anything as you are when you install Leopard.

This doesn't solve your problem, but you should be aware that the version of Safari 3 installed with Leopard (and also 10.4.11) is not beta. It is the release version of Safari 3.

I'm not seeing problems with image-rotating JavaScripts, but of course it would depend on the exact coding. Can you provide a link to a page where this isn't working properly?

I'm another one whose Safari bit the dust after I installed the update. (I also agree the Safari 3 should have been an optional install.) Got rid of the 3rd party stuff -- all two of them! -- but still nothing. I downloaded the PowerPC combo and re-installed it, still nothing. I'm down to trashing Safari 3 and reinstalling from my CD. Question: how do I do that? Install only Safari, I mean. I'll be using the OS X Tiger CD.

Steve,
This article on MacFixit, explains the basic problem of 3rd party utilities of a particular type that modify the Safari application itself (as opposed to a plugin or tweaking preference files):

That's why trashing Safari Enhancer as proposed by some people here who think they know but really don't know what they are talking about does not work. The problem happened during the install of 10.4.11 and the Safari 3 application has to be trashed. Kudos to Apple for making it that simple. I shudder at what it would take on Windows.

Included in the article is a procedure and links to what you need to surgically reinstall Safari 3 on Tiger. I wanted to go back to Safari 2 as well but persevered and was able to move forward. I think the bottom line is that the 10.4.11 installer tries to migrate 2 to 3 but simply does a poor job of it and the result is a dirty install of 3 and, as it appears, many ways that 3 fails/acts wierd for some but not for others.

The Safari 3.0.4 version that installs with OS 10.4.11 is much more stable than the previous standalone beta version 3.0.2: Now, at least, my autofill works. However, Safari 3 still won't install Adobe Reader 8.1.1 plugins, which worked fine with Safari 2. In order to save PDF files viewed in Safari, I have to right-click and open them in Acrobat 7.0 standard and then save. Workable but clumsy. When I had previously tried Safari 3.0.2 beta, I was told that to properly uninstall the program I would have run the special Safari uninstall program and then I could reinstall version 2 from the original OS 10.4 DVD. I did this, and it worked fine until Safari 3.0.4 was automatically installed with the upgrade to OS 10.4.11.

Unless I did something wrong pertaining to that article, I still can't launch Safari. I downloaded and used Pacifist to install Safari after removing the crashing Safari. Maybe the devil is in the details, as the instructions in that article are very simplistic. To uninstall the crashing Safari, is it just a matter of dragging to the Trash? To install the new Safari with Pacifist, is it just drag the Safari folder to the Applications folder? Do items in the Safari folder get placed elsewhere? -- Still open to suggestions. (Still don't understand why Safari 2.x won't "see" my HD with OSX 10.4.11. Craziness.)

well, trashing 3 and doing the install worked and i now have Safari 2 back. But im still seeing the things i noticed from the switch from Safari 2 to 3 on the 10.4.11 install as in my post here...
