Bad Sound Quality Insignia Bluetooth Headset with iMac

I have this Insignia Stereo Bluetooth Headset Model #NS-BTHDP. It sounds great with my cellphone, but completely awful with my iMac. It is very muffled sounding like on a bad telephone connection.
They do work in stereo on both the cell and iMac. So it is only a case of sound quality. Please tell me if there is any way to fix this problem?
Maybe hidden iMac audio outputs to adjust? Or a program to download that will fix this weird bluetooth connection between the iMac and the headset.
Thanks in advance.

I have the same headphones and same problem.

Have discovered that Tiger does not output stereo via bluetooth, which is why the phones sound awful. Leopard does support stereo output through a bluetooth protocol known as A2DP.

However, be warned that there are reports that Apple has handicapped this technology to preserve their sales of Airport base stations.

Guess you have to try it for yourself to determine if audio quality is acceptable.

I had the same problem with my SonyEricsson HBH-DS970. Pairing successed, but bad sound. When I disconnected the device I observed that iTunes played the sound bad even with my inbuild speakers (MacBook Pro). Then, I turned of my headset, restarted iTunes (now good sound) and turnd on my BH-DS970. My mac ansked me if I wanted to connect to my headset BH-DS970, and I answerd Yes. After that the sound was perfect!!!!!

I just bought this very headphone and here is how I got it to work on My MacBook Pro over Leopard.

First I tried to get it thru the bluetooth configuration tool in the toolbar, but I couldn't. So, i got thru the System preferences options and then it worked fine.

1.- On "System Preferences" selected "Bluetooth" icon.

2.- Check boxes "On" and "Discoverable" (I don't know if this could affect, but my computer was this way, so I'm just reducing variables)

3.- Press and hold the "Multifunction button" fo the NS-BTHDP (see the manual) for about 7 seconds, until you hear a low tones forn the earpiece and the blue and red lights flash alternately (see section "Pairing the headset and your mobile phone" on Hearphone manual)

4.- on "Bluetooth" window, click on the "+" to "Setup new device" . Select "Headset" (for the type of device to be discovered) on the popup menu and click continue

5.- After that, the Headphone should be discover - you need to enter the 0000 code

6.- After that, change from Headset to Headphone on the option button (the "gear-like" one who is at the left of the "+" and "-" )

7.- Enjoy!

I hope this helps.

you may have an older bluetooth adapter... i have an older one that is bluetooth version 1.2, USB 1.1 and when i use it i only get the option for headset (actually it might be only for headphones... can't remember?)...

but the newer one is bluetooth version 2.0 with EDR (enhanced data rate) and USB 2.0 and it has both headset and headphone options..

plus if i use the older on i have the option of turning bluetooth on and off, but if i use the newer one this checkbox is grayed out... so your options are definitely impacted by the bluetooth adapter you have.

i bet the bluetooth adapter in the store was different than yours...

A little off-topic here piotrantonow, but how did you get your insignia headphones to even play music while paired with your phone? The manual said that I need to have the phones in "advanced audio" profile but of course never says how to do that. I can play audio on them when I pair them with my mac, but I can only get them to work for calls on my phone. I'm assuming you did this and was wondering how you set that up.

I also have NS-BTHDP Insignia headphones. I have gotten them to work with my MBP as well following the same steps. However, whenever I turn them off, close the lid on the MBP, or turn bluetooth off, and then try to use them the next day, the will not connect, but it will say they are connected, and will no longer route audio through the internal speakers, yet no sound comes out of the headphones. And furthermore, if I click 'Don't use headphones', then click 'Use headphones', to redo the process, the current open process, whether Safari, iTunes, or anything else, will get freeze and get the beach ball. If I attempt to force quit whatever active program is frozen, a grayish bar wipes down the screen from top to bottom saying I need to restart due to a kernal panic. I then have to restart my MBP, and delete the bluetooth configuration for the headphone and reconfigure/install them with the steps you listed. Anyone else have any problems similar to this? I'm stumped on this one.
