Canon Optura 60 won't import into imovie HD 6 using 10.5.1
I Just got a new imac 24" and I went to import a movie using imovie HD 6 and it won't see my camcorder. All it shows is the isight camera and it won't show the import signal or what is playing on my camcorder. I have updated everything and recalibrated my display. I am running out of options. Is this a conflict with 10.5. I run imovie HD 06 on my machine because I can use more Gee Three effects and it has more bells and whistles than imovie 08.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Were you able to import clips into iMovie before? I assume you had a previous Mac. If not and this is your first time using a Mac with iMovie, it is well known that some Canon camcorders do not interface with iMovie if there are other Firewire devices connected to your computer. I have an Optura 50 and I have to turn off all external FireWire devices before it will show up in iMovie. If you don't have any external FW devices, and you have connected your camcorder to the iMac using a FireWire cable and you have set your camera to Play(VCR) then it should work. If not I sure don't know what the problem is...
I have a macbook pro that I had imovie running on with 10.4.10 with the same camcorder. I have had this camcorder for a while and haven't had any problems. I just got this new imac a week ago and had 10.5.1 preinstalled. This was the first time I had the camcorder hooked up and I don't have any other firewire devices hooked up so I'm not sure why it won't see my camcorder. I do a lot of imovie work so I need to figure this out.
Hope someone else has some ideas as I have the Optura 50 and will be transitioning to Leopard in a week or so. Hope this is not a generic problem with these older Canon cameras.
I have the same problem with a Canon Optura 20 and a new MacBook Pro. I has worked fine before with my iMac and iBook G4 running iMove 06. Will installing the Canon drivers for this camera help? I am desperate for advice here.
I have the same problem but with a Canon Elura 90. I was able to import clips from this video camera using iMovie 6 HD to my PowerBook G4 under 10.4.x. After upgrading to Leopard, I can't import from the same camera any more.
I was able to get my video cam to work with iMovie HD 6 after all. I un-installed the entire iLife '08 suite and installed iMovie HD 6 from my iLife '06 disc. I deleted the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iDVD.plist and ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.idvd folder.
After I confirmed that my Canon camera worked fine with iMovie HD 6 along with iDVD6, I installed iLife '08 again. Fortunately, iMovie and the rest of the iLife '08 suite is working great.
